Blowouts are not fun, especially for the losing team, but I never hear the players complaining about having to play another game.

I know its not what the fans want to see. I have always said that these school egtting whipped just want to make the playoffs. Thinking about it I guess that is a goal they can work toward. So hats off to those schools.

 

At some schools, especially in the 3A and 4A big districts it can be a good goal for a struggling program.

It didn't pass overwhelmingly, but obviously it passed so it's a done deal IMO. I would be curious how many of the 48% that voted to change are the schools that are on the losing end of these blow outs. Are most of the 52% coaches and ADs who haven't experienced these?

 

I'm selfish. I don't care about the blowouts. I simply want to the Championship to be a week earlier on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Whether Beechwood was there or not, I would go every year if they were on a normal Day off for me.

 

Should a struggling program realistically expect to win their district? Making the playoffs, especially in a district where all teams don't go can be a worthy goal for many programs.

 

It's the stagnation that makes it a bad system IMO. If you are struggling use making the playoffs as a springboard. It's sad if that is always your goal. I don't think any program that is consistently a playoff team should want to only be the four seed. I love the way Fairview sets their goals. Not too long ago they didnt have a program at all. Now they always talk about the next step.

 

If the worst thing that happens with this playoff system is that Highlands 2nd and 3rd string players get some extended game time I don't see how any of the players lose in this.

 

In all honesty 2 teams getting in would improve the play in Kentucky, but with the increased turnover of football coaches I don't know if it would be good for the players and coaches. Continuity can stagnate a program but often times it is a good thing.

I'm totally in favor of four teams making the playoffs IF you can guarantee each district has at least five teams. And the only way to do that would be to drop to five classes.

"Clear Majority"? Where do you get that? I see it as 44% want it to change. Certainly a majority, but not that definite. I guess it depends on how the numbers are worked. I would like to see how the Survery was done.

I am with you, getting the championship games back to Thanksgiving weekend would be great, especially for the small schools who always get stuck with that Friday morning championship game. But I like everyone getting into the playoffs.

Remember that Heath, Lone Oak, and Reidland are all now one school so in reality only 9 schools didnt vote.

Kinda surprised by the list of schools that voted for only top 2, many of these schools would not make the playoffs in that format most years.

What I noticed about the "Top 2" list is that most of the teams fell into two categories - traditionally strong programs and traditionally weak programs. The strong schools (Beechwood, Covington Catholic, Mayfield, Somerset, etc.) may view the opening round as a wasted week that costs the program money due to low attendance from both home and visitor crowds. The weaker programs tended to be opposite districts that were either long distance trips away or opposite a powerful program. Either way, they'll have to make a long trip that costs money without much chance of a victory.

Not sure why a school wouldn't vote? Obviously the closing schools wouldn't. And I guess I understand schools like Danville or Fort Campbell, because they got new head coaches and perhaps the vote got lost in the shuffle. But why wouldn't the others vote? And schools like DeSales, Glasgow and Hazard are strong football programs that would seem to want their voice heard.
