July 25, 201313 yr Here is one that I had heard of and had to look it up to make sure I was right. Righthander Red Barrett of the old Boston Braves pitched a 2-hit shutout on August 10,1944 against the Cincinnati Reds, winning 2-0. He threw only 58 pitches, walking nobody and striking out nobody. He didn't fall behind in the count on any batter. Boy, it's a good thing BGP wasn't around then. People would've been all over the hitting coach for not telling his guys to take some pitches! :lol2:
July 25, 201313 yr In his first full season in the National League (1966), the Cards' Larry Jaster threw five complete-game shutouts vs. the Dodgers. L.A. went on to win the N.L. pennant that year. I don't know if that's a record for shutouts vs. one team in one season, but it's worth mentioning.

July 25, 201313 yr Don't know if it's a record, but Steve Carlton won 46% of his team's games (27 of 59) in 1972. Tough to imagine that being broken anytime soon.
July 25, 201313 yr Fernando Tatis of the Cardinals hit 2 grand slams in 1 inning against the same pitcher, Chan Ho Park.
July 25, 201313 yr Elroy Face's 1959 season with the Pirates. He posted an 18-1 record that year -- which is noteworthy. What's remarkable, though, is that all 18 wins came in relief. I don't think that will happen again for a long, long time.

I don't think that will happen again for a long, long time. Probably not since guys only pitch 1 inning. I think one year Tom Hall started off 10-0 all in relief for the Reds but then the streak ended. I should look it up but I think he finished maybe 10-2 or something like that.
July 26, 201313 yr How about records for outfield assists? Tris Speaker holds the career record of 449 (the next closest person has 377). The single season record holder is Hardy Richardson who had 45 outfield assists in 1881. The single game record is 4 held by 11 different people who accomplished it 12 times (Bill Crowley did it twice). However, the last time it was accomplished was in 1931 and 9 of the 12 times happened before 1920. The active leader? Carlos Beltran who has only 131. The most in a single season in the last 30 years? 24 by Gary Ward in 1983.
July 26, 201313 yr Not a record but an interesting fact Since May 23rd Yankees' right handed hitters have 2 Home runs, home runs by right handers from other 29 teams 858 Since May 1, Justin uptin and cub pitchers each have 4 HRs. Uptin had 12 in April.
July 27, 201313 yr You've heard of shooting your age in golf. Bob Feller struck out 17 in a game in which he was 17 years old. Duplicated/eclipsed by Kerry Wood, who struck out 20 batters in a game when he was 20 years old.
July 27, 201313 yr The 1985 season for Wade Boggs. 653 at-bats. 240 hits. 124 hits with 2 strikes in the count. Popped up 3 times. Once in fair territory. Swung and missed one - ONE - first pitch.
