Obscure Records that will never be broken?

Featured Replies

Detroit's Victor Martinez and Mets Joe Torre both grounded into 4 double plays in one game.

Will anyone break this record? (Insert your own Zach Cozart joke here)

In 1997 Craig Biggio played over 150 games and never grounded into a double play. Record will never be broken.

Cal Ripken Jr has grounded into the most DP in a career (350). Will this ever be broken?

I would have liked Sean Casey's chances if he could have hung around the bigs long enough.

IF Votto ever gets five at bats with runners on, in a 1 run game...that record is gone!

Funny you should say that. Sean does hold the NL record for GIDPs in a season by a Left-handed batter. (27)

I've always said that the most unapproachable MLB record is held by Connie Mack.

Managed 50 straight years for the same team (Philadelphia As).

Here is one that I had heard of and had to look it up to make sure I was right.

Righthander Red Barrett of the old Boston Braves pitched a 2-hit shutout on August 10,1944 against the Cincinnati Reds, winning 2-0. He threw only 58 pitches, walking nobody and striking out nobody. He didn't fall behind in the count on any batter.

I'm sure that there are a few pitchers with career ERAs of infinity.

From 1962 until 1977 Jim Katt won a Gold Glove. Will that streak ever be broken?

It's already been tied. Brooks Robinson won Gold Gloves each season from 1960-75.

Not sure this qualifies for "obscure," but Mays, Aaron and Stan the Man all played in 24 All-Star games. That record never will be broken unless MLB returns to two All-Star games.

Johnny Mize is the only player to hit 50 home runs, and strike out less than 50 times. 51 HRs, 42 K’s in 1947. Can't see that being broken in this day and age of the K.

Don Baylor was the first player to ever be caught stealing twice in the same inning in 1974.

Johnny Vander Meer back to back No Hitters, not obscure but, I don't think it will ever happen again.

Nate Colbert Padres 1972: 111 RBI on a team that scored only 488 runs all season. No one else on the team had as many as 50 RBI that year, and no player had ever driven in such a high percentage of his team's runs. 22.75%
