Yep, a $7 ticket becomes a $15 ticket. I think that most would be ok w/ paying that knowing that they were going to a game that was televised on ESPNU b/c they understand the trade-off for the exposure.

 

At the end of the day the majority of the extra money is going in Tom Gamble's pocket.

Not sure it was the money. If Gamble was truly the linchpin to getting ESPN to televise, it was probably the excitement of playing in a nationally televised game that rules all. Dale surely remembers the excitement felt by his players when MaxPrep televised the 09 game against X (trust me, I had a son on that team and he thought it was super cool) and knowing Dale, it wouldn't surprise me (but admittedly I'm guessing) if his decision was based heavily on wanting the players on this year's team to be able to experience that same excitement.

Just curious what the cost of a ticket is going to become since Gamble's company is now involved. Too high of a price will certainly have an effect on the casual fan that may come.

It is simple economics, Tom Gamble gives the schools a nice guarantee that is tough to say no to so the games are adopted as Crosstown Showdown games and the involved parties raise the ticket prices. In other words, Tom is laughing all the way to the bank and all the individual schools are complicit in fleecing their fans.

 

I believe this line of thought supports Trinity's lack of enthusiasm for participating in the recent past. The Ryle Sports Festival was an awesome event with Cincy X, Elder, Trinity, MBA or BA one year, etc. Triple header with competitive games.....modest payout for the teams....reasonable ticket price....I always wondered why the Rocks opted out and now I have my answer.

For those worried about the price of tickets, if you check out the link at CrossTown - ShowDown you will notice that games at some of the locations, i.e. Lawrenceburg, IN, Cincinnati St. Xavier and both friday night and saturday afternoon at Centerville, OH appear to be the usual high school prices for those locations. I go to a lot of Colerain games and the price is usually $7 for adults at the gate, while the GCL-S charges $8 at the gate. The tickets for double headers and UC facilities (Nippert and Sheakley) are higher, but the rents for the UC facilities are higher. Yes, Tom Gamble and his company will most likely turn a profit, depending on weather, etc, but we do live in a free enterprise system and the person/company that takes the risk needs to make a profit.

 

I am also wondering: With the improvements to DCMS, is Highlands going to up the price of a ticket for all games to cover the costs?

 

That being said, $8 - $10 is not bad for a ticket to see Highlands and University Christian play on national TV.

Iam going to go out on a limb and predict that Gamble didn't get everything he wanted in this deal. I would suspect that when a team signs on to his CrossState Showdown that teams have to agree completely to his terms in order to collect their cut.

 

My guess is Gamble is using this game for his portfolio and nothing else, he most probably agreed to terms with Dale that he would never do for anyone else. I just find it hard to believe that Dale would agree to totally losing all control of this game especially at Highlands,

 

Iam sure Dale caved on some areas just to get this deal done but I can assure you he didn't cave on all areas, simply not his style, my guess is Highlands is getting more out of this deal than Tom Gamble in the end...Just sayin
