I don't see the point in eating fast-food, or stuffing ourselves so full of fatty foods that we become obese, or about a hundred other things people do on an every day basis. That doesn't mean they should be illegal.

 

A person doing a drug, causes zero harm to anyone else but that individual. Now, if that person than goes out and beats up his spouse, that's a crime, and it's going to be a crime whether drugs are legal or illegal.

I agree with you on most of the bolded. I just don't know how it could ever be legalized and improve society, that appears to be our only difference. You think legalization will help solve our drug problems or at least make them profitable for the government. I don't, that is really all we disagree on in this entire thread...

Lots of reasons why, just none of them good reasons. Peer pressure, trying to escape their own reality, thinking they can't get hooked or feeling that it's harmless fun, etc... There are a lot of bad reasons to start doing them, I suppose. The experience I've had with friends and some family in the past is the hard part is quitting them before they kill you or completely ruin your life. Having said all that, I still feel we should just legalize all drugs.

And again, consumption in moderation means nothing to the topic. It's responsibly consuming the product that matters.

And you say you're open minded and when someone disagrees and offers their reason why, then you reply with "it means nothing to the topic". I'm done with this issue. The folks who ask for others who usually roam on the conservative tilt to be open minded, then poo poo any thoughts or ideas as irrelevant when proposed. Not sure how that works. But I find it alarmingly typical.

I obviously didn't meant that taking the drug literally forces you to steal, but Im 100% certain that many thefts/burglaries today are done by heroin junkies who can't hold down a job because of their addiction. Those junkies will then steal from family, friends, and strangers over and over to get their next fix.

 

You can substitute alcohol for drugs in every single one of those.

 

Here's the gist of my thoughts on it:

 

- Drinking alcohol is not a crime, the actions that result from one drinking alcohol can be though.

- Carrying a knife is not a crime, the actions that result from carrying the knife can be though.

- Carrying/owning a gun is not a crime, the actions that result from one doing so can be though.

- Doing drugs should remain a crime because the actions that result from doing them can be criminal?

 

The inconsistencies don't make sense to me.

 

I've never heard of an alcoholic stealing from family, friends, businesses, etc for a beer.

 

I'm sure it has happened but I can promise its no where near as common as a drug addict doing the same thing.

I don't know. 5 pounds, 10 pounds? Is that a "large" in the scheme of things? I really don't know. I don't think I'm ready to send someone to the gallows over a 5 pound brick of weed, but a 5 pound block of heroin? Maybe so. So the term "large" might need to differ depending on what the drug is.

That isn't true. Drugs cause people to infringe upon others. Thefts, assaults, neglecting kids...

A more free society is an improved society. The more choices we quit letting the government make for us the better.
