I didn't waffle. I said I lean heavily towards no. The depends comes in when you're talking about those with mental limitations such as those with down syndrome and the like.

 

So, why the differentiation in kids and adults? You're so full of manure when it comes to issues like this you argue in circles. Your stance is as long as it doesn't hurt anyone it's ok. But there should be an age limit. Why the age limit? You think my statement doesn't deserve a response because you think it's ridiculous. Drugs for kids is a bad idea but adults it's cool. How is it not clear that both are harmful, and for the same reasons. Your open mindedness is pretty limited in my opinion.

I've always said what adults do in the privacy of their own homes should be no one elses business. Are you really implying that you think kids and adults should be held to the same standards/rules?

Actually, I think a 3 year old on crack would agree with me. He was born into this addiction by a mother who is legally doing it. Let's be totally free in our society, he knows what the addiction is like, let him hit the pipe. Should be easy enough. And it's his life, let him live it how he sees fit. Not affecting a soul, but himself. Why the difference?

I have read this entire thread and it's evident to me that the youngsters are all for a lawless age coming down the pike. They want no one to be held accountable, no social responsibility. It's the decay of our society in a nutshell. I suspect now that there will be posts to follow this one that will say that my generation is stiff and closed minded and irrational, and that my shortsighted view is antiquated. But I expect that, and would be shocked if it isn't to follow. I fear for this mindset that is on the horizon for our country.

 

So if being 30 disqualifies me from having an opinion I apologize. I just don't like the government telling me what I can do when the only harm that can be done is to myself. Keeping the opinion of less government I stay consistent. If you notice if we are talking about economics , bussiness or guns I'm agreeing with the people who are disagreeing with me on this subject. If having consistent beliefs is wrong I don't want to be right.

When a well thought out response is offered for drugs to be illegal, it seems to get misconstrued, turned around and then wild stretches and correlations are made to other issues that don't have bearing on the issue at hand. My point with the last couple posts is simply to make a point that some of the arguments made in favor seem just as goofy to those opposed as mine did to those that want drugs legalized.

Its very simple. Drugs are illegal for adults to consume because the government or a group of people decided they know what's best for everybody. Simple nanny state governing just a different topic.

I don't know how someone passing out on their porch is going to bug me. But if they do it consistently I doubt they will be living in my neighborhood to long. Probably won't be to successful. I never said drug use doesn't lead to personal consequences. But as long as you aren't harming other people none of my business.

 

Complete drug legalization is a pipe dream I know. I do believe marijuana will be legal in a majority of states in my lifetime. When that happens we will see the economic benefit just like we saw after prohibition . I'm a non user of anything outside of a good bourbon or craft beer. So the purchase or ability to purchase any of these items is of little use to me. My belief is purely economic and my belief in life liberty and pursuit of happiness. The economic drain this war has on tax payers is obvious . I don't think our courts should be tied up with silly misdemeanor possession charges or some college kid have something placed on his record for small amounts of weed.

I understand your point. And I agree to an extent. But I believe some things have to be governed for the well being of the population. I believe this is one of them. That's the beauty of a democracy, you can vote to change it.

I would like to know the people who are against legalizing marijuana what your stance is on the sudden rise in legalization of gambling. I heard the same concerns . But what I've noticed is people accept it because it is a vice they enjoy. Go to any Casino that is built in an urban area who are their main customers? The poor or lower middle class , college students/ young adults and retirees. I'm for allowing gambling but I know it isn't all positive . But it made sense for tax payers.

Commit the crime you do the time. I just don't believe we will see a sudden rise in users because intelligent people will more often than not abuse drugs. If corporate America takes over drug business it eliminates the organized crime element see alcohol.

 

I just assume to allow people to learn on their own instead of assuming they would make the wrong decision . Some will, most won't.
