I'll echo the sentiments of an earlier poster....The government should not have a say in what a person puts in their own body.

 

Instead of wasting billions of dollars on something that has no chance of working, why don't we make a huge profit off it, and bolster the economy? I'm sorry, but I've yet to hear a good reason to not legalize them.

I'll readily admit I don't have a solution. But I'm 100% convinced legalization isn't an alternative I'd choose. Because it's legal doesn't mean it would inherently be better or less likely to be overdosed. I also understand the argument that would allow adults the liberty to do what they please to themselves. However, those who would indulge are far more likely to harm others collaterally wouldn't you agree? It's a pipedream (no pun intended) to think that users will lock themselves at home and partake and not get behind the wheel or worse. Am I way off base here? Some laws are for the general protection of the public. Dr. Kevorkian was, in his opinion and others, doing a public service. However, laws are similarly in place to protect our population.

I'll answer with this, I hate tobacco use especially when I know intimately what it does to the body. However, with the exception of second hand smoke, tobacco doesn't cause immediate life altering tragedy, would you agree?

As for alcohol, I have to believe that while it's use will always be more widespread, I think it's use in moderation is far more likely than illicit drugs. Let's face it, you can have a beer and operate a vehicle perfectly. The drugs used in this thread as examples aren't taken in moderation. I don't know if that answers your question, but that's my stab at it.

The odds of responsible use of a firearm is monumentally higher than the use of illicit drugs. Come on, apples and oranges. You are always banging the drum for people to be open minded and use logic, and when they do contrary to your opinion, you spin it to suit your agenda.

Alcohol and guns are perfect examples of things that are legal to use, that when used irresponsibly infringe upon the rights of others. Based on your logic, they both have to be made illegal.

Same holds true for alcohol. If you're responsible enough not to use it in excess and drive, and you are responsible enough to not use drugs because they are legal, you can come to the logical conclusion that the vast majority would be responsible enough not to drive while using.

 

Yes, there would be an increase in use. Significant increase, no one knows. No one also knows the impact of regulated smack.

 

Regardless, I'm not using. I just wonder what impact legalization would have.
