All joking aside last year the rule was changed to allow 26 players on the roster the day of a doubleheader. Before that you could make a move in between games but you could only have 25 players on the roster for each game. The new rule allows 26 players on the roster for the game and waives the 10 day minimum trip to the minors for any player sent down.

 

If I remember correctly, this rule was the reason why the Reds broke their "consecutive start" streak last year. Until a doubleheader against the Cubs (I think), the Reds were the only team in baseball to use the same starting 5 all season.

I think you're right. It also creates a loophole where teams can essentially have a 26 man roster for 5 days. Once you bring up a 26th player there is nothing that requires you to send that same player down after the doubleheader. If they had options you could actually send down one of your regular starters and, since there is no 10 day waiting period, recall them when their next turn in the rotation comes up. That would give your team extra bullpen help for those 5 days.

My thoughts as well. If he would've known he probably would have given a heads up. Then again maybe he did and the media never found out.
