The only thing that is relevant is that it's silly to get worked up about transfers -- any transfers -- because it's just how it's done, and how it always has been done. All these people whine about the KHSAA enforcing the rules, but if it were their school benefiting, they'd be griping about the KHSAA staying out of their business the same way they gripe about the NCAA's oversight of UK hoops.

 

If you want to stop the transfers, stop caring so much about sports. The reason they're even happening to the degree they are here and everywhere else is because American society places entirely too much priority on sports.

 

I get what you're saying here and I am with you 100% -- okay, I still think there are other schools who take as much flack as Scott County, but we can agree that that is not the primary issue here. As for the primary issue, I think you and I are on the same page: it saddens me if any player or parent sees athletics as the single most important factor in deciding where a young person is educated. They are called "high schools" because they are, well, schools rather than farm teams.

 

As for the double standard regarding KHSAA complaints, I see that point as well but I don't know enough about the rules or about the actors to say anything intelligent. I do know first-hand, however, some families at KY schools who have been less than thrilled when stud athletes transfer into their programs on short notice and displace kids who have stayed loyal, worked hard, and played it by the book.

So if you were coming from out of state you wouldn't be looking at going to one of the top programs in the state?

Maysville Classic (formerly the Dirt Bowl) being played this weekend at the Mason County girls' gym downtown. Long played in the final game last night.

 

Still a project, but 7'1" tenth graders aren't a dime a dozen. So big that he can grab rebounds from behind without fouling. Has a low-arcing junper from outside. Probably played about 15 minutes in the game I saw last night. Should dominate in HS down low even as a 10th grader.

In today's world which is vastly different than it was even 10 years ago, I don't have a problem doing away with the transfer rule altogether. Let kids go wherever they want to go. No one could complain anymore because there wouldn't be a transfer rule to enforce.
