Unfortunately transfers are a part of high school sports. Anybody that believes head coaches aren't aware of rumors about kids transferring into their program is just foolish. For the most part high school coaches do not initate contact with potential transfer. But once the word gets out that a kid is thinking of letting or is unhappy, most coaches let the word out that they would love to have that player in their program. Again most cosches will not do that themself but will have a "friend of a friend" do their work. That way they can say they run a clean program and had no contact with the kid. Yes .... Successful program recruits itself but coaches put the word out there that certain players are welcome. In no way is this an isolated case. Most coaches have the same philosophy so this post is not targeting one school or one coach.

As any coach should do IMO. I have no problem with any coach acting in this manner.

I'm not doubting it, but it sure is a far cry from a couple of years back with Euton and Jackson with regard to the tune everyone sang. My how a couple of years sans a final four appearance erases the attitudes of many.

Or it has become so common state wide that it isn't as big a deal.

Fixed that for you. Spindoc and I were just having this same conversation. Ultimately, at the end of the day, nobody really cares except for people who hang too much of their self-worth on the fortunes of a damned HS sports team. And many, if not most of them are quite hypocritical about how they place their outrage when you consider how thrilled they would be (or have been) when the shoe was on the other foot and their team won the big stud transfer athlete lottery.

I think we all get your point. At the same time, you may wish to check the other BGP threads that focus on players and their various (real, potential, or imaginary) transfer moves before assuming "everybody" is jealous of your particular school. This kid isn't the only highly valued player around and your school isn't the only one that attracts talent.

Maybe not as high as Long, but an NKY school may be picking up a very good exchange student.

But that even more proves the point of why it's so silly to get worked up over Scott County and their antics, perceived or real. Honestly, it's kind of pointless to even both to enforce transfer rules given how many shady moves go on every year all across the state.

I absolutely understand your position, Jim. However, this actually proves the opposite of your and James B's point. If you check the bigger picture you will notice that people get just as "worked up" over other transfers involving other programs. This particular thread involves Scott County so people are weighing in on Scott County, but there is no evidence that people target Scott County for any more praise or criticism than other programs in similar situations. Claiming that "everyone is jealous of us" is sometimes a roundabout way of saying, "we're special" -- in the final analysis, it is an unproductive line of thinking.

Then ignore the jealous part. It's irrelevant to this discussion. And to say that Scott Co. is not targeted more than any other school is crazy. They garner as much ill will as do T and X.

 

The only thing that is relevant is that it's silly to get worked up about transfers -- any transfers -- because it's just how it's done, and how it always has been done. All these people whine about the KHSAA enforcing the rules, but if it were their school benefiting, they'd be griping about the KHSAA staying out of their business the same way they gripe about the NCAA's oversight of UK hoops.

 

If you want to stop the transfers, stop caring so much about sports. The reason they're even happening to the degree they are here and everywhere else is because American society places entirely too much priority on sports.
