The ugly truth that no HS hoops fan wants to deal with is this: Ask yourself why in the Sam Hill would a bunch of Japanese people -- a culture that tends to care zero about basketball -- be concerned about the well-being of the local HS hoops team to the point they would be setting up jobs for parents of high-profile recruits? They already donate heavily to support the Toyota Classic, and I'm sure that they do other community outreach stuff that more than fulfills their goals toward being a good corporate citizen. Anything beyond that and it requires someone so vested in the success of the Cardinals that they have to be some wacko like Joe Craft or other booster-types, who derive their self-worth from the success of the team they support. Again, that's a big stretch to ask of a bunch of Japanese executives who are probably far more concerned about the length of the greens at Cherry Blossom than they are with whatever the hell Billy's got going on.

 

Scott Co. and Georgetown HS were successful long before Toyota got there. Any success they've had since then has more to do with the fact that it's simply a desirable place to live, with a good employment base that draws people (Toyota), and relatively cheap taxes that also draws them in from Lexington. Scott County's success has more to do with White Flight from Lex than it does Toyota setting up parents of talented hoopsters with jobs. And like the folks at Trinity and X like to say, success is its own recruiter.

There actually is a Trinity Christian Academy in Lexington. I believe they had a girl make the finals of the Olympic trials in swimming a few years ago. But yes, the Herald probably should have realized that school on Man 'O War doesn't exactly rake in high level basketball players!

So, so true. For anyone who thinks Scott County basketball just began the day Billy Hicks walked in the building, let me remind you they've missed SIX regional tournaments since 1956 (1965, '69, '70, '87, '89, '03). They've won 13 regional titles, half of those before Hicks, and nine times they've lost in the regional championship. If you do the math that means they've been in 24 finals in 52 years. Not bad. In fact, with numbers like that, it's conceivable that parents and students might be interested in moving to that community, attending that school and playing basketball. Maybe.

If I was moving to Ky I would likely be enrolling my kid and have them playing for Scott County before any of the Lexington schools. LexCath being the only other choice to be honest.

The fun part is watching the SC people defend what really goes on here. The great education, the wonderful community, the great history, etc. What they can't defend is the fact that these kids don't "just happen" to show up as was said about Long in an earlier report. Sure he did!! "Just happened" to show up like Ware "just happened" to show up this summer to play with Gilbert who "just happened" to show up from Wolfe county a few years ago. They are just a long line of talented BB players who "just happened" to show up from Rick Jones, Scott Hundley, Bud Mackey, Euton and Jackson, and even CCunningham for a short while. Too many to list them all really. So Billy Hicks response to a 11th Region State Champion is to go get him some more players instead of coaching up kids who come through his feeder system. Here's a question Scott County defenders. Have you seen Hicks beat a more talented team lately? I think when you see your new players who "just happened" to be on your roster you will have your answer.
