I thought this deserved it's own thread.

 

I'm sure most know what happened to the NewCath senior in the District Finals, he fouled a ball of his own bat that struck him in the eye. He had 4 fractures of the orbital bone and had a plate put in above and below the eye. He also had a major tear in his eyeball, they had to cut through a muscle to get to the entire tear on his eyeball...25 stitches.

Update on Alex Grau:

 

Please keep Alex in your prayers, yet again! He will have surgery to repair his detached retina, tomorrow. It has been confirmed that they are no longer worried that he will lose his eyeball, from the trauma he received from the popped up foul ball, but he faces more surgeries for the retina and cataracts in the future. He is our WARRIOR and he has been very, very brave during the past 3 1/2 weeks. For an entire week he will lay flat on his stomach...only getting up 10 min of every hour. Thank you to all!

I talked to some NCC coaches the other day and you can tell this has really affected them. I don't know Alex from Adam but have heard nothing but tremendous things from those who do know him. He will continue to receive my thoughts and prayers moving forward. I wish the best of luck to the young man and know that if he is half the person that people tell me he is, he will make it through this.

Alex is indeed a tremendous young man from an outstanding family. This is tragic but knowing him and his parents as I do, they will persevere and overcome. I and my family wish them the best as they fight forward.

Hate to hear this, our kids do so much to play at a high level in these sports they love. I am hoping for the best for Alex and his family. Lots of people are praying and pulling for positive results.

4 weeks ago, today our son Alex Grau was up to bat, when he fouled a ball up into his right eye. He has 4 orbital fractures, 25 permanent sutures in his eyeball and as of yesterday, he had retinal surgery to reattach his retina. The doctor was able to get in to remove the lens, remove the blood, put in an oil bubble and reattach the retina. It is now a time factor. For 1 week, Alex will lay nose down, to prevent the retina from detaching, however, he more than likely will face 1 more retinal surgery and up to 4 more...time will tell. He also faces other surgeries. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the texts, FB messages, emails, cards, dinners, gifts for Alex etc...Alex is blessed, we are blessed! Keep praying for our warrior!
