Unfortunately, this is another sign of "Trickle-down ethics" in sports these days, where winning isn't the most important thing, it's the ONLY thing!

 

It is examples of behavior like this, that almost make you yearn for the days of not keeping score and everybody get a trophy....jk

The Coach is wrong and the OHSAA is wrong for permitting this to happen. Central Hardin had a player suspended for the opening round of the Sweet 16, his team won, he learned his lesson and they are in the Final 4. In my opinion the Coach has everything out of perspective, the OHSAA has no control and the umpire was totally right in tossing the young man!

This is why KHSAA was looking to passing a bylaw that does not let teams schedule extra games after an ejection during the season.

In NKY at the freshmen level I know that after teams are eliminated from the postseason, they can go ahead and schedule games with other eliminated teams so the kids can get more experience. Albeit that is the freshmen level and I don't know about at the varsity level.

I hope Badin gets crushed in the final 4! The coach was wrong in this situation, and I hope the OHSAA changes the rules due to this. They also need to send a strong letter of disappointment to the GCL and to Moeller and Bacon for allowing Badin to skate around the rules by scheduling the extra games, it's not like they didn't know what they were doing, they only thought about helping put a fellow GCL team.

 

The parents from Badin who came down and cussed at the ump are real tools! I am sure they did not hear what the kid said, actually non of us were, but it sounds like the ump would have let it slide if the kid was just upset at himself and not directing it at the ump.

Shouldn't tossing the helmet also have had consequences.....Wrong....plain wrong...

I like how the umps comment about how he wasn't some schlepp pushing a broom all day. He already has a superiority complex. Kid should have been warned. Especially with the circumstances. Most umps would have handled it without incident while making their point. Figuring a way around the rules......well that is how life works isn't it.

Point 1. The umpire is to be applauded for his actions. I am so sick and tired of the "heat of the game" excuse. Audible profanity whether directed at an official or not should be penalized WITHOUT WARNING in all sports.

 

Point 2. The coach should be fired immediately. He can say that the extra games would have been scheduled regardless, I'm calling shenanigans. The only lesson he taught was it's OK to do whatever you have to to skirt the rules.

 

Point 3. The parents that harassed the umpire need to take a good look in the mirror and see where their children learned that it was acceptable to act like jerks.

 

Point 4. The OHSAA needs to immediately change the rule that allows this to happen. If not I never want to see anyone on this KENTUCKY board point to Ohio as a place that we need to emulate. The suspension rule not only needs to remain but there also needs to be an addendum to that rule that games hastily scheduled AFTER and ejection do not count towards the suspension.

The umpire enforced the rules and his call was never overturned. I highly doubt that the umpire knew or was thinking "hey if I throw this kid out of the game then he will have to sit out for the State Tourney". IMO the umpire really could care less what the implications were going to be.

 

The coach did absolutely nothing wrong according to the rules and even though we all know what he did by scheduling the two games to get his Sr back then all I can say is smart guy. The rules were not broken here and as far as I am concerned whats the big deal? JMO
