Is the Coach Teaching the Right Life Lessons?

Featured Replies

Point 1. The umpire is to be applauded for his actions. I am so sick and tired of the "heat of the game" excuse. Audible profanity whether directed at an official or not should be penalized WITHOUT WARNING in all sports.

Point 2. The coach should be fired immediately. He can say that the extra games would have been scheduled regardless, I'm calling shenanigans. The only lesson he taught was it's OK to do whatever you have to to skirt the rules.

Point 3. The parents that harassed the umpire need to take a good look in the mirror and see where their children learned that it was acceptable to act like jerks.

Point 4. The OHSAA needs to immediately change the rule that allows this to happen. If not I never want to see anyone on this KENTUCKY board point to Ohio as a place that we need to emulate. The suspension rule not only needs to remain but there also needs to be an addendum to that rule that games hastily scheduled AFTER and ejection do not count towards the suspension.

Point 5. I'm really glad they lost.

All Tell then dropped the mike and walked off of the stage!

Really no harm and no foul imo.

The umpire enforced the rules and his call was never overturned. I highly doubt that the umpire knew or was thinking "hey if I throw this kid out of the game then he will have to sit out for the State Tourney". IMO the umpire really could care less what the implications were going to be.

The coach did absolutely nothing wrong according to the rules and even though we all know what he did by scheduling the two games to get his Sr back then all I can say is smart guy. The rules were not broken here and as far as I am concerned whats the big deal? JMO

So if a High School player at your favorite school gets kicked out of the state semi finals on Friday, you'd be OK with Dale scheduling a farce of a game on Tuesday against Walton Verona so that player could play the next Saturday in the State Finals? And you think that is the right Life Lesson for the coach to be teaching?

Heck, why get Walton involved, just schedule a midweek game against the soccer team and call it Futbol!

Couldn't have said it better

Won't speak for SB but in Ky, it would be against the rules, so I doubt if Dale would do it.

Do any of you understand stand that the Badin Coach did not break any OHSAA rule in doing what he did. He followed the OHSAA rule by requiring the player to sit out two games and in scheduling the two games as strange as it sound to us in Kentucky where it is against the rules to do such a thing, it isn't in Ohio.

BTW those in Ohio think our allowing kids to play HS ball for more than 4 years and allowing the amount of games and unlimited number of quarters to be played by players is dumb too.

I can't believe any of you are defending the scheduling of games. It ruins the integrity of the tournament. Teams at state should have been screaming bloody murdrer.

The kid should have been kicked out. The ump did his job. The coach is a horses arse. End of story.

Why should the other team complain?

It isn't against the OHSAA rules what the Badin Coach did!

Should the rules be changed?

Heck, I think a lot of rules in the KHSAA should be changed but at the present time they are the rules you play by!

How many times have you seen a Umpire make a bad call in your favor? Do you think the coach of your team should go out onto the field and tell Blue that he was wrong in his call? Or do you sit quietly and and think, the man in Blue said safe, so that is what he was!

You play by the rules and the Badin coach did just that. It's not his fault that the OHSAA had an out for his team to take and as thus he did what was totally legal per OHSAA rules to do!

Don't be mad at the Coach, be mad at the rule makers!

Yes, it is legal but that was not my initial comment. I will turn it back to you TOG, as you always do to others, you are defending it and think it is okay. I don't care what the rules are. You believe it is ok and would be ok if Coach Krumps did it. This is a character issue, one you trumpet every time you mention CCH. The spirit of the rules did not catch this unintended consequence. Because you don't get punished doesn't make it right. You should know this. The coach and worse Badin should know this.

Now, go back to my first statement and respond, you are defending it and okay with this? I am not asking whether it was legal.

I agree with kyyank, no one questioned that he was breaking the rules really. Point of the thread was what are you teaching kids by so obviously circumventing the spirit of the disqualification rule?

Didn't say Krumps would do it nor would CovCath allow it but I am stating the fact that the coach was in legal grounds of doing what he did.

Does it make it right, that the coach played by the rule before him? Not my call but

he was within the OHSAA rule book to do so, just as a coach who knew a batter was out on a play at first but when Blue called him safe, just sat there and played by the rules!

Again, my feeling of it being right or wrong doesn't matter but it does matter what the rules of the OHSAA read and the rule is that the Badin Coach was within the rules to do what he did!

Again be mad that the OHSAA has a loophole for the coach to use but why be mad at the coach for playing within the rules laid down by the OHSAA.

Point of the thread was what are you teaching kids by so obviously circumventing the spirit of the disqualification rule?

THIS!

As to the thread question, no! The coach is not teaching the "right" life lesson. He showed the kid he can do wrong and someone will be there to make sure there is no punishment.

Point of the thread was what are you teaching kids by so obviously circumventing the spirit of the disqualification rule?

TOG, put the rule book down and read what the point of this thread is.

Your telling me that a basketball coach who knew his player walked but the stripe didn't call it should call Time out and instruct the Ref to give the ball back to the other team because his player walked and the Ref missed the call? Wouldn't it be great if the coach spoke up to set a good example to his kids!

It would be a perfect world if everybody did what they are morally suppose to do but they don't and if you have ever played sport, I will bet you can tell me a time or two about a play that went your way that you didn't speak out to say to the official, sir I was out and you called me safe!

What are the parents teaching the kid by still allowing him to play?

You are Dodge Ball King of the World...I guess you will continue to avoid the question presented in this thread either out of pure hubris or because you think that it is a great lesson to teach our kids.

This reminds me of Ryan Braun, he cheated, got caught cheating but beat it on a technicality...so that makes it OK.
