The other one I hear often is:

"Walk. He lifted his pivot foot."

Yes, opposed to changing his pivot foot.

Over and Back is one I see alot. Just because a players foot goes acroos the halfcourt line and then back behind it again doesn't mean its over and back. The play has to have all 3pts over the halfcourt line.

When you go over top of another player, its a foul. Nothing wrong with fighting for rebounds but you can't disrupt someones position. They have the spot and they spot they controll is from the floor to the ceiling. Thats the rule. If you go over the back, you illegaly take a spot they had position in. The 3 second count is suspended when a drive to the basket is made. If no attempt is made, and the player is still in the lane, 3 seconds should be called.

Your pretty far off, I've looked at my rule book and there is nothing about a count being "suspended than put back on. Also your "over the back", there has to be contact for anything to be called.

Lifting the pivot foot doesn't constitute the walk. Putting it back down on the floor or dragging it makes it a walk. The jump shooter lifts his pivot foot off the floor every time that he shoots but releases the ball before returning to the floor.

I wish schools would give a copy of the rules to all the fans. It keeps me quiet knowing the rules. ;)

Great idea! Maybe instead of giving away programs and line-up sheets, they can give away copies of the rules!! :thumb:

I myself find it very entertaining listening to some of the CRAZY comments people make in the stands. Sometimes I just want to look at them and say, "Please do us all a favor and read a copy of the rules!"

Check your rule book again. Do you have the 2005-06 edition? A few things are a little different this year. Later on, I will post the page number and exact wording. And I never said there didn't have to be contact. Thats pretty much a given. :fire: :fire: ;)

True, but if the other foot is left on the ground when moving the pivot, the pivot foot changes, constituting a violation.

Well, if the ball is still in his hands when a pivot is lifted completely up then its a walk. .

That would be incorrect, Lee. If it was correct, all shots would have to be shot without jumping, correct?

When the pivot foot is lifted , the player has the following options: pass, shoot, call a TO. If the foot comes back down prior to any of those 3 things, its THEN a walk.

I may be misunderstanding why you are saying. But if you have established a pivot foot, and then lift that pivot foot and not the other foot, that is an automatic violation because you switched pivots. You may jump and have both feet leave the floor but you can not shuffle your feet and maintain the same position. I know that is correct but I may have misunderstood the question. Sorry.

Not true. Once the original pivot foot is established, the other foot's actions are irrelevant. Again, its all about what happens or does not happen once the lifted pivot foot comes back down.

Read above post. You cannot lift your pivot foot only and therefore switch pivots. That is a violation.

Obviously, Lee, you and I are having a communication problem. If I go by what you said above upto where it ends, you are incorrect. Lifting the pivot foot in and of itself is NOT a travel.

Right, but you cannot bring it down. I see what you are saying now. If you don't advance position or bring the pivot down, no violation. Its all good now.

Lol, the thought of a player just picking up one foot at a time and putting them back down without going anywhere just seems funny whether its a travel or not.

Technically, there is no such thing as "switching pivots". You can only have one pivot. Once that pivot comes off the ground , the player has to shoot, pass, or call a TO. If that pivot foot comes back down (regardless of what is going on with the other foot) and he didnt pass, shoot, or call a TO before it re-touches, its a walk.

Get your rulebook out and read the definitions.
