Bigger Stages:

Two kids I'd look out for on a smaller scale are Ethan Hall and Simon Christian from Knott County Central. I think they each have the potential to make them a nice find for a smaller school. Playing with Justice will get them some more exposure than they might get otherwise, and I thought both were a little underrated last year. With Hall's size and ability, I really think he could turn some heads. On a side note, his grandfather was one of the bigs on the Wayland team if I'm not mistaken. They were talking about this during the WYMT Mountain Classic this year, and I'm almost certain that it was Wayland, and if not them, it was Cuba or one of the teams that the history buffs should know.

 

For Perry County Central, Braxton Beverly and Justin Johnson are having break-out summers. I wouldn't necessarily consider them "newcomers", but they may be taking their games to bigger stages at the next level and get some attention from schools that we might not have expected over the last year.

 

 

For Cordia, I am really anxious to see what they will end up having based on how their schedule has changed. With the way it looks like it's been beefed up, I'd expect them to have a solid core.

 

Freshmen-to-Be:

Austin Combs was an 8th grader who had a nice role complementing what they had last year. From what I understand, he's a local kid whose grown up in their system, and could be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the competition and exposure he'll receive playing with what's now around him.

Peyton Broughton of North Laurel came onto the scene with some meaningful varsity minutes last year, and I'd expect his spotlight to continue to grow.

 

In the Lexington area:

 

Tay Guyn of Scott County. He's the younger brother of University of Cincinnati guard Ge'Lawn Guyn, and was the only Freshman listed on Scott County's Varsity Roster last season. Not really going out on a limb to say his development will be one to follow.

I'm sure Cordia will have some new faces! Absolute joke what they're getting by with.

From what I saw this weekend, I am excited about the young Campbell County Camels. Sophs to be Matt Wilson and Trent McGovney and junior to be Diondre Jackson helped lead their AAU teams to the semis at State.

Based on the scheduling (this year, especially when compared to previous ones), I am expecting an influx of talent. All of that is only based on that though, so (unfortunately) no insider info or anything like that.

GRC may have a new face next year. One of our Freshman tore his ACL last September and did not get to play. I have been told he is a 3 sport athlete, football, basketball and baseball. Saw him a few weeks ago and he is still in a knee brace. Will know more when football season starts.

Another name to add for the 13th (to append to my previous post) would be Wes Wolfe from Clay County. He played some as a freshman last year and his playing time increased as the year went on. I would expect that trend to continue into next season with the loss of Bowling, Lyttle, Reed, Smith, Rice, and company.

 

If I'm not mistaken, Wolfe played for one of the better EKY AAU programs a few years back. I'm unsure if he's still with them now, or how long he did play with them, but I'm thinking it was Jesse Sizemore's Kentucky Kings team.

 

Wolfe and Blake Smith were the only two freshmen listed on the KHSAA's varsity roster last season, and I would think that both will be playing valuable minutes on next year's team.

They have one of the top big men from Mississippi enrolled in school but his name has slipped my mind. They also have the two kids who had to sit out last season eligible for this season. And there is talk of 2 more kids who have somehow ended up in the area.

Scott was loaded with upper classmen last year. I think they graduated 9 srs. Blake should make his name in the 10th this year.

I agree 100%, the kid can dominate an opponent when he wants and seems to get as much pleasure from passing as he does from scoring, love to watch this kid play.

Another kid to watch next year is Huff from Beechwood. Had a solid sophomore season last year for the TIgers.
