Another kid to watch next year is Huff from Beechwood. Had a solid sophomore season last year for the TIgers.

 

The game I saw him I thought he had a real slow release on his jump shot.

From what I saw this weekend, I am excited about the young Campbell County Camels. Sophs to be Matt Wilson and Trent McGovney and junior to be Diondre Jackson helped lead their AAU teams to the semis at State.

 

Things look good in Alexandria for next year.

 

They also have Cole Hegyi that is an 8th grader that played JV last year. They have a few pieces for sure.

I really liked what I saw from this young man. He seems to play the game the proper way and can put the ball in the basket. Should have a tremendous career.

Finally had the chance to see Rod Avery, 6'5 soph from Holmes tonight...kid is good. Will be arguably best athlete in NKY next year. No doubt in my mind. Was grabbing rebounds over a 6'9 kid that plays overseas today and had 9 Dunks in 3 games to 10 against college kids from Lincoln Memorial, Shawnee State, Cincinnati State, Capitol University, and a kid that plays for Toledo but is looking to come home and,walk on at X. (Name escapes me)

 

I know Dunks don't tell how good a kid is but he also showed a solid mid range game and would rise up over everyone around the rim for easy buckets. Needs to work on his strength but had a nasty oop dunk over Will Stuhr.

 

Also, couldn't tell you the last time I seen an nky sophomore throwing down Dunks while going between the legs on the way up.

Sounds like your in business with your favorite team (Holmes). With Greene as the best freshman (as you said), Bolden as best in the state, and Rod Avery as the most athletic, Holmes shouldn't have much competition. It seems like you only blow up kids you know personally, or kids who come work out for you. If you want to be a legit HS sports/basketball "analyst/reporter" and not just a "blogger"....... There is soooo much more talent out there. I know you follow the Travelers, and I know you work kids out, but get out and watch some of the other talent over the summer. NKY has a lot to offer.

And secondly, in HS there are still a lot of teams that will zone you up, so his ability to dunk the ball may not be an asset. Can he shoot the ball? Defend the ball? Rebound the ball? Pass the ball (to Bolden)? Because those will be the things that matter come November.

(McDonald, Schulte, Moeves, Jake Smith, Weyer).

 

2. Never said Bolden was best in state. In fact, I've stated multiple times that I think Ray Spalding of Trinity could end up with the highest ceiling of any kid in the state because of his combination of size and athleticism to go with his versatility.

 

3. I get out and cover plenty of kids outside of nky and the state. I have covered several AAU tournaments for other sites that had interest in teams outside of KY. I simply choose to post the majority of my nky coverage here. If you don't like that, that's fine, but I'm doing my best to give as many kids exposure as I can. If you feel you can do a better job, let me know so I can stop doing what I'm doing.

 

4. As far as competition over there, everyone is going hard or Sherwin tells you to leave. Anyone who knows him knows how intense he is. These college kids don't want to be showed up by a young kid so they are going hard. Hell, Armani Housely got Dunked on twice by the 6'7 kid from LMU. As far as my evaluation of Avery, if you read my post, you'd see I answered your questions. Athleticism was allowing him to rebound with the bigger kids and also blocked a lot of shots. Showed a solid midrange game and ability to finish but definetly needs to get more aggressive and get in the weightroom as he got backed down by Hill and others several times. Average ball handlers but good enough to get to the Rim.

Von Handorf should definitely start for CCH. The kid doesnt wow you with his athleticism but he can fill it up.

 

He will compliment Ruthsatz very well at the 2.

And, according to others, now Beechwood. I see you post a ton on the Travelers (who Bolden plays for), but you gave no, or very little, love to Shining Stars when they beat the Travelers (16) at state. Moeves and Schulte were lights out at State. Did you even go watch state? The best tournament locally last weekend, with most of the best from Ky.

He takes ill-advised shots, turns the ball over, and has even tried to put that team on his back, even when not needed, as obviously they have Hatton. Now, can he improve? Surely! As I'm sure he works hard over the summer. Also, does a lot of things well, like passing the ball, makes some solid cuts, etc. But, IMO he isn't even the best PG on his own team, much less in NKy.

Just because it wasn't posted here or on twitter doesn't mean I didn't acknowledge it. I am very busy person right now because of work so don't get to use social media and get on here as much as I do during the HS hoops season.

As for Beechwood, you're right. I added that in only because someone else threw it out there because of Goetz. That was irresponsible on my part, as I like to hear about other teams/players. Was using it to prove my point about a lack of coverage, except for certain players. I don't know what your affiliation is with Beechwood, or Goetz.

 

My point was that recently, I have only seen you post primarily about the kids who work out with you, or who play for Holmes/Travelers. I have rarely seen you post about Bo Schuh, other than a slight bit during the HS season. I have not seen one post about Liechty, maybe I missed it. My point was that there is so much talent in NKY, such as... Holbrook, Trentman, Moeves bros., Ben Weyer, Matt Mullins, Austin Schreck, Jordan Noble, Jake Schulte, McGoveny... I mean, the young talent is out there. But, I haven't seen you post as much about these kids.

 

In regards to Liam Rabe, I don't want it to seem as I think the kid can't play. He has some game...but, what do you consider a "top" pg? IMO a "top" pg would be one of the best 3, and Rabe is not on the level of Bolden, Ruthsatz, or Pangallo. I also think there is a player on that Dixie squad that would be a more efficient option at the PG spot, especially with Brandon dominating the ball, and the post presence they'll have this winter. Liam has skill, and I'm sure he is getting better and working over the summer, but he isn't a top PG yet.

 

I guess as a guy who loves the game, and follows many teams and players in NkY, but can't get to all the games/tournaments, I like to see a wide variety of blog posts about many players.

 

And, just to restate, I do enjoy most of what you bring to the table. Especially during HS ball, it has just seemed watered down with those who are working out now. Keep doing what you do, as it is appreciated. I guess if I want to see the talent and analyze it, I need to get out on my own.
