Mom changes baby's diaper in Starbucks, police called

Featured Replies

Burgos noticed there was no changing table in the Starbucks' restroom, so instead of taking the baby out to the car, she changed her son's diaper in the seating area - on a table that people eat and drink on.

Alex Burgos says a Starbucks employee "tossed" his wife a rag and spoke to her in a "demeaning" tone.

"He said make sure to wipe the seat when you're done," he said. "They started talking amongst themselves and laughing about it."

Burgos says his blood started boiling, hotter than the venti coffee with extra sugar he decided to pour on the floor.

"And I said make sure you clean that," Burgos said.

He says they exchanged strong words and hand gestures.

The store called Denver police to report a "disturbance" and an officer responded around 10 p.m. but nobody was arrested.

Starbucks spokesperson Jaime Riley says the company is "concerned," has "apologized to the Burgos family," and wants all customers treated with "dignity and respect."

Is the customer always right?

Is the customer always right?
In this case YES !

Buck up and put a changing table in the bathroom you cheap motherscratchers. They mount to the wall. Probably no one employed there with the savvy to get it done, have to call in a contractor at $100/hr to mount the thing. After the verbal exchange, I'd likely have left a little e-coli racing stripe on the table.

Guy sounds like a tool.

Needs to be a changing table in there.

That said, Starbucks is just a little less pretentious than Abercrombie.

Starbucks loses this one when they went over and left a rag telling them to wipe off the table. They should have waited until customer was done and then had an employee wipe of and/or sanitize the table as needed.

First, there should have been a changing table in both male and female restrooms. Second, common sense needed here. One does not change a child's diaper on a table in the middle of people consuming food. I think it was a purposeful act done for shock value, to maybe prove a point, and maybe a payday. Also, the staff person needs a refresher course on how to deal with people in difficult situations.

It's hard to tell who the baby was, the one wearing a bag of feces or the one who poured his coffee on the floor to be a [edited].

I don't think it was done for shock value, I think it was done to change the diaper. If it was a #1 diaper change I may have done the same thing faced with no place to change the baby. Now if it was a #2 diaper change, if at all possible I would have done so on the sink counter if there was one in the restroom, if not I'm not sure how I would have handled it without being faced with that situation.

There's some things you just don't do and changing your kid's diaper on a public table that people eat/drink off of is one of them. The employee should have handled the situation in a better manner but I am not mad at the employee.

Hopefully Starbucks adds a changing table.

First, I am sure this is not their first te in a Starbucks, they knew!

What was wrong with the bathroom floor? There are many things that you do not do in public, and this is one of them, plus add in its a place that sells food and drinks. I don't want to see it while eating and drinking, and possibly smell it. I agree they may have been doing it for the shock value, as well as attention that they knew would soon follow.

There are health issues here, I'm sure the dept of health in the area would not like it either. I think they did the right thing by telling them to make sure to clean the table themselves. We demand too much from people working in the food and drink and other businesses, they should not be expected to clean this table, vomit or many other things.

Vomit, really? Who is going to clean it up if not an employee of the business? Some one is so sick that they vomit and your going to bring them out a bucket and mop and tell them to clean it up before they leave? Not being too sensitive to your sick customers.

It is disgusting to clean vomit or even worse the women's bathroom, both of which I have done more times that I can remember when I was younger. I never expected a sick customer to clean up after themselves. Now when a bunch of teenage girls come out of the restroom after smearing :poop: all over the walls, mirrors, sinks and hand dryer, yeah those little :poop:s should have been forced to clean up their intentional mess.
