Generally speaking ND always plays UM, USC, Stanford, Michigan State, Purdue, and Navy. The remainder of their schedule is typically 2-3 more BCS schools... OU, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Nebraska, FSU, Boston College, Arizona State this year, etc. They will also play some other "easier" games, but they are about the only team that never plays mid-major schools. Outside of an SEC schedule they play probably a tougher schedule than anyone else.

May 16, 201313 yr ...for those thinking ND should drop the academy schools...... ND will always play the academy schools because during WWII when enrollment was down, the military leased out the quads at ND to train recruits, and essentially kept ND alive.....

That's an awesome story if anyone hasn't read about it. And it's awesome for the Navy program now to continue to get to play Notre Dame.

Even though they don't play mid majors, they are still not playing the cream of the crop when it comes to BCS schools. They play decent competition but IMO their schedule is usually always mediocre at best. Probably why they looked like they were in a different universe when they were on the field with Bama.

They all also have the advantage of playing in average conferences as well. Those games look good in name only, it's not like we're taking 80's and early 2000's Miami and USC.
May 19, 201313 yr If ND wants some real competition on the schedule they would play some SEC schools, I'm assuming with the ACC deal this isn't going to happen. What's worst is they are likely trading games against teams like Michigan with teams like Wake Forest and Boston College.

I'd say the Notre Dame website is not the most reliable for information on this matter, and neither would mgoblue.com be as well. Either way, it's a great rivalry, and Notre Dame has killed it to play NC State, North Carolina, Wake Forest, etc... Trust me that ACC contract will not say Florida State, Miami, and Virginia Tech every year. As for them playing Purdue and not Michigan what good does that accomplish? If they are competing with Purdue for recruits, then BK is in trouble. Hoke is 19-7 at Michigan, undefeated in the big house. Four losses this year were to the same Alabama team that beat ND like a drum, OSU on the road by less than a TD without Robinson under center, Nebraska the night Robinson got hurt , at ND by what a touchdown when they had 6 turnovers, and a last second lost to South Carolina who went 10-2 playing a SEC schedule and Clemson... Let's not act like ND one year of squeaking by against Michigan, Stanford, and Pittsburgh makes them so much better than the boys in Ann Arbor. Unforunately because of the ND ending this game, what could be a great rivalry between Hoke and BK will never be either.
