Does this mean I am on the Chip Kelly bandwagon?

Featured Replies

Earlier today, we noticed a stream of tweets from writers covering the open portion of Monday’s first OTA practice for the Eagles under coach Chip Kelly. Many were pointing out the music blaring while the players put in work.

The folks at CrossingBroad.com have listed theentire 24-tune soundtrack, giving the zealous Eagles fans the recipe for the ultimate iPod playlist.

From AC/DC’s Thunderstruck to Van Halen’s Panama to Duran Duran’s Hungry Like The Wolf to 2Pac’s California Love to Haddaway’s

to the current Icona Pop hit I Love It, there’s an apparent method to Kelly’s evident madness.

“There’s a lot of science behind it but I’ve got 12 minutes left in this thing so I can’t really get into the details of it but there’s some science behind it,” Kelly told reporters after practice. “We’ve used it for a while.”

I had a little jingle in my itunes account so I downloaded the songs I didn't already have and set the list up in the exact order Kelly has the songs in. Chipper says there is a lot of science behind it so it has to work, right?

Do I ask again, does this mean I am on the Chip Kelly bandwagon?

Listening to the Chip Kelly band, at any rate. That's pretty close.

It means you're a hopeless NFL junkie biding your time until August and the preseason.

Kelly did this at Oregon. You'd think NFL beat writers would do better research. He plays all kinds of stuff including Disney songs.

Don't think it puts you on the bandwagon, but it does put you riding thru the mean streets of Northern Kentucky

bumping the same tunes as Chip Kelly.

Coach Hatcher blares music at his practices. I just assumed a lot of coaches did it.

Yeah stuff from the Lion King I think. Many teams play music to simulate crowd noise or to just put practice to a pace. I think what Kelly does might go a little further than that from tempo to mood and so on. Music tones and such have an effect on people.

My question....do any teams that blare music at practice got any championship rings??????????????

Again how can you get any teaching done if we are in a music video the whole time. I think it has a place but my guess is there is a thin line between too much and just enough.

If I remember correctly it was all about tempo and mood. And yeah, the first thing I heard about him playing was the Lion King soundtrack. :thumb:

Chip Kelly was all of 30 seconds away from having a championship ring. If not for the strangest play in BCS history, he might be known as 1 time national champion Chip Kelly.

Agree!

However what interests me most is the "science" behind the type and order of the music. Anyone?

Some songs may have a certain tempo (speed) with the them and that may be the speed that he wants to have play calls going or something so he may be playing those at practice to tell them to be moving and calling plays at a certain pace. Other than that, all I can think about is the fact it just simulates crowd noise.

I am about to go to the gym and play it while I work out. I am expecting huge results! :watching:

They do not "teach" during practice nor do they "correct" during practice. They do all of that in position meetings and film. Practice for them is about reps at a high speed. I am little surprised that more people don't know about how they do things as big of a deal as they have been.

Now as far as the science portion of it. I think if you googled enough you could find the information. Music be structure can create certain reactions it appears. For example, porn music is not just porn music. The way the music is created (sounds and structure) create a certain type of response within people. I found that information out through a human sexuality course in college.

Sort of like casino "music/sounds" put in you the mood to gamble?
