Does this mean I am on the Chip Kelly bandwagon?

Featured Replies

Yes that would be the case

They do not "teach" during practice nor do they "correct" during practice. They do all of that in position meetings and film. Practice for them is about reps at a high speed. I am little surprised that more people don't know about how they do things as big of a deal as they have been.

Now as far as the science portion of it. I think if you googled enough you could find the information. Music be structure can create certain reactions it appears. For example, porn music is not just porn music. The way the music is created (sounds and structure) create a certain type of response within people. I found that information out through a human sexuality course in college.

I swear they should hire college writers or high school coaches to cover the new offenses and coaching styles in the NFL. NFL personnel are either oblivious or stupid when it comes to ideas from the college game. It's stuff most college and NFL coaches have researched in depth often straight from the horses mouths that run it the best.

Next we'll hear about Chip Kelly's signs he uses on the sideline if he brings them to the NFL. All of the stuff brought to the league recently is made too confusing by NFL personnel. How could anyone not believe Kelly's offense won't work for at least a brief amount of time? The league will treat it like its the cure for cancer when it's really similar schemes ran from the gun and at a fast pace.

New England has been using many of his concepts for a few years. I completely agree with people being clueless and a great example is the Redskins offense. People just think its zone read stuff and do not realize the different games they are playing with blocking the backside. It's some real smart stuff.

If I remember correctly it was all about tempo and mood. And yeah, the first thing I heard about him playing was the Lion King soundtrack. :thumb:

Chip Kelly was all of 30 seconds away from having a championship ring. If not for the strangest play in BCS history, he might be known as 1 time national champion Chip Kelly.

ALMOST...and you know where that counts.

National Championships are not the be all end all of measuring how good a coach you are. The music for more than crowd noise is a fairly new thing. Unless you have gone to either a Kelly practice or any of the practices of a National Championship team you can't really comment about what they do/do not do in practice. This isn't some strange blakc magic stuff or doing something just to be cool.

Dang, look at me always commenting on stuff I shouldn't/

As for the music, like I said in one other posts, but I think it may have its place but there is a thin line, and while the science may back up some of the success, some of the upsets, and last second losses Oregon has had could be related to some of these new ideas.

I don't see how the upsets or last second loses are linked to their new ideas. If you have watched them practice and been around them then it would make more sense. 2009 I am not sure how much was really expected out of them with Kelly taking over. 2010 the loss is more about not tackling a kid to the ground or playing through the whistle. 2011 LSU smakes them in the opener (biggest marigin of victory by an opponent in Kelly's time at 13 pts) and later the loss to USC in which they just shot themselves in the foot. 2012 the loss to Standford when they miss a FG in OT which went to 3 OTs.

The music, tempo, signs, and many of the other things they do people don't get because they don't have the information. Like was stated earlier the music thing is nothing new. They have been doing it for 3-4 years. Football is taught much differently then when many of us played the game.

You dont really know me, so your assuming I am just a fan that has not seen them practice or heard him speak at clinics or seen any other programs up close....If you are your wrong.

I am just saying one thing that kids these days need is immediate feedback, praise and encouragement and discipline, and IMO all this stuff has its place. I only stated that its a thin line and maybe...this fun time becomes a distraction at times.....IMO. I think alot of this stuff was a gimmick that helped in recruiting and to make Oregon unique. In the NFL, it will end up being a problem I also feel it was for Oregon in the end.

My question....do any teams that blare music at practice got any championship rings??????????????

Again how can you get any teaching done if we are in a music video the whole time. I think it has a place but my guess is there is a thin line between too much and just enough.

You are correct in that neither one of us knows each other in any way shape or form. I do not feel I was making an assumption about misunderstanding the music portion due to the above quote. You asked how do they teach with all this music and stuff going on. They don't teach in practice. They rep past a few fast words. All teaching and correction is done in position meetings and film.

So I did not assume but made an interpretation of your statement from my experience and understanding of the subject. Sorry if I misunderstood.

BTW have you been to one of their practices?

I am about to go to the gym and play it while I work out. I am expecting huge results! :watching:

I realize I am quoting myself.

I have used the mix the last two days and it really has kept me engaged and I like the flow. Additionally, I changed up both my upper and lower body workouts the last two days so there is more change for me than just the music.

I have heard Kelly speak as well as one of his assistants and seen video of the practices, I have also read alot on them due to my fascination with the spread no huddle offense. I actually really like the stuff. But I dont like its effect on defense, and I think all the bells and whistles can leave you with a circus feeling. I have also been to practices at Ohio State, U of L, UK, WVU, Marshall, off the top of my head. Also seen alot of film and cut ups of the Tony Franklin Schools, Troy, LA TECH, Cal, Auburn, Texas Tech.

I was wondering how it worked for you. Did you notice a pace or anything?

It is pretty fast paced. But almost to the point of frantic at times. Again I am in my 40's though and I have a prettty biased way I think certain things need to be. I think you gotta build up to that pace each day....I look at this offense sometimes as a paint by numbers kind of thing. Its always good art that serves a purpose, but not always a masterpeice.

I almost always move really fast through my workout and my two day ago upper body workout was like a blur which tells me the pace was awesome. I may not sound like I am making sense but the idea for me is to have an "out of body" experience when I am working out. When I achieve that goal I always get great workouts and it is over before I know it.

Yesterday I did power walking, step running, numerous lunges, etc. all while I was doing my cardio. My pace was great yesterday until the 24 songs were over then I struggled the last 15 minutes or so with distractions. I actually didn't figure that all out until right now but the last 15 minutes or so I fumbled through some random music (not to mention it was hot and I was at the end of my rope).

So for me, the music is well worth the $15 or so dollars I spent to add the songs not already in my library.
