Grant County opening has been filled

There is no discipline there. If you get kicked out of class you go to the library and read a magazine.

If you fail it's okay...try and do better. If you pass...good job. I am sure that there are a lot of places that are like that.

Congarts to Coach Grammer and good luck to the Braves this upcoming year. On another note... Rumor has it that Tyler Carr is in Pikeville!!!:sssh:

I think Tyler will be playing for a Hicks next year, either Jim Bob or Billy.

First of all, they couldn't fire Hicks as an Educator because they had no grounds to do so. That administration makes people's lives hell if you are not a yes man/woman. And yes a lot of great teachers are leaving but teaching jobs are hard to come by so if you have tenure you do not leave one school till you are hired by another. You sound like one of the locals who have their head in the sand and thinks the Principal is such a pretty lady and does a great job. Why don't you ask the basketball booster president, who has been around that school forever and does great work what he thinks of this administration. He has seen many administrations and thinks this by far is the worst ever during his 20+ years being around the school.

Not sure of where all the personal hatred is coming from, especially calling out the lead administrator. Maybe you've experienced her wrath at some point in time and elected to move on too.....Sour Grapes?? Did they really try to fire Coach Hicks? Never heard that before either. Again, he resigned his coaching position under his own power.....wasn't asked to do so.

Why would I ask a 70+ year old basketball booster president, who also sets on the local water district board, and makes good popcorn, what he thinks about the administration? I really don't care what he thinks about the administration. Since you brought him up, I'll be the first to say that he does a great job at what he knows how to do.

Negative attitudes will never be successful!

Again, Good Luck to Coach Grammer and the Braves program!

Wouldn't be shocked. The loss of Carr hurts more next year than the loss of Hicks IMO. If Tyler goes, that team goes from a top 5 team to the back half of the top 10 in the region.

The administration at Grant is very supportive if you are a brown nose, yes ma'am, or in the right clique. If you dis-agree with any of them on anything whether its ethically right or wrong they find ways get rid of you. There is a high turn over rate in teachers. Good teachers are always trying to get out. From the outside everything looks great.

Winning in athletics is not expected. You can lose every game and keep your job as long as you don't drink a beer at local establishment with your team, don't touch athletes inappropriately, have relationships with high school students or go to high school parties. I have followed GC for 20 years and athletics is on its way to the bottom in all sports.

As for Bobby B. anyone who does not respect what he does and knows obviously is a very self-centered individual.

Good luck to the Braves and the new coach. They next two years should be ok but after that the talent drops off.

Any word on Grammer's staff? I believe Coach Utter had already decided to step away, even before Hicks announced he was leaving, so there was already a vacancy for the assistant's job. Will Plunkett still be the JV Coach? (Can't remember who the freshman coach was.)

She does not have much wrath. She is in over her head and struggles every day to do a less than average job. The problem is no one in the board office or community hold her to a high standard. Mr. Burgess is well respected and appreciated by everyone except the principal. He has seen more wrong doings and cover ups than you could imagine. Hating Mr. Burgess is like hating the Dalai Lama. That district is full of administrators who just want to get a paycheck and go home and most only have Grant County experience to fall back on. When you hire from within a bubble, aka only Grant Co folks need apply, this is the sort of incompetent leadership you receive.

Another poster spewing off with hatred and not reading what was said! You need to read post 168 again....I'll be the first to say that he does a great job at what he knows how to do!! Self centered or not, that sounds like a compliment!

Your statement was condescending and demeaning towards Mr. Burgess and you are too arrogant to realize it. If you spend as much time at that school as Mr. Burgess you get a good sense of how things are being run.

Bob Burgess knows more about Grant County than 2/3 of the employees and does 3 times as much. He only wants what's best for community. I would assume the entire boys staff will need to be replaced. I know many of the players are anxious to get back into the gym. Good luck Braves!

I hear that Mr. Burgess is stepping down as booster president. So now that position will be open.

Amen!

I'm really tired of everyone bashing the administration at Grant County. The administration has done absolutely nothing wrong. Coach Hicks was placed in a credit recovery class, where he has an assistant and basically sat at his desk all day. If anything I would say the administration was setting him up to succeed, not fail. Unless there were some underlying factors that took place behind the scenes, (which I highly doubt) then you all are going off one mans story. Has anyone ever considered that maybe Coach Hicks is leaving Grant for SV simply because it is a better job? I mean didn't SV win state just 3 years ago? Even with the team he had coming back at Grant. Which is probably nothing now since Carr is, in my best guess, going to follow Coach Hicks to SV. I believe Coach Hicks saw an opportunity and wanted to jump on it before the door closed and is now bashing the adminstration so he doesn't get Grant county's finest hating him. Now when it comes to Bobby Burgess no one and I mean NO ONE does more for grant county sports than him. Most know everything he does for basketball, but if the baseball field needs mowing, raked, or anything Bobby is the first one there. If the football team needs anything Bobby will know what to do. If anyone does not have the absolute utmost respect for Mr. Burgess then you obviously have never met him. But if you are relying on him for information on the inner workings of Grant county high school then you should do some more research. Because what Bobby knows, Coach Hicks has told him. I wish the absolute best for Coach Grammer and the 13-14 Braves.

The admin tried to start the process of firing Coach Hicks this year but he called them out because they screwed up their paperwork and they backed down. He finally got tired of them last year and started calling them out on some of the things they are currently being investigated for by the OEA. They didn't like that, obviously, so I'm sure they're hoping this new coach is a yes man. If not, he'll be replaced in a year or two.
