Best position by position NKY

At times I can be bias :D But, I think Austin Schreck, Matt Mullins, and De'ondre Jackson will surprise some people this year. Im not necessarily saying top 5 yet, but these guys will contribute heavily on their respective teams.

Holbrook seems to get lost in the mix quite often. He is a solid player who can score and shoot pretty well. I agree with Clyde that Pangallo is not on Ruthsatz level. Each are good for their teams, but I believe Ruthsatz is a very smart player who can score in any way. You talk about Pangallo's scoring being up if he had to, but that's like saying Ruthsatz assists would be up if he had Bueter, McD, and Schulte.

Pangallo is and will be a very nice player. Probably play in college some day if he chooses. But, at this time, I like Ruthsatz and Bolden as 1 & 1A.

What we are looking at is some great hoops for this coming year. Kids that would normally be on a list like this are left in the shadows. It's a real shame if we don't look deeper into each team and appreciate the other talent that will be providing many nights of entertainment during the cold months.

Good luck to all the boys. Can't wait till tip off.

Agreed. :thumb:

All this talk is making me think I should get together a NKY All Star game next year with the best players, regardless of class............

PG. Bolden- Holmes

SG. Hatton- Dixie

SF.

PF. McDonald- Newport Central Catholic

C.

6th Man- Blake Schneider guard Scott

Not sure who to fill in for SF and C.

Bolden from Holmes is the only legit player. 9th region basketball is competitive within itself, but for a metro area is the weakest in the state. Hatton is as good as he is going to get, McDonald is a big body and should score 15 points because of his size, and who can be called a 5 when most of the current group besides Schulte is between 6-4 and 6-6.

We agree. He's still not at Ruthsatz' overall level. Ruthsatz plays the role he has to play. Pangallo plays the role he has to play.

I can agree they play different roles. Point made. However, my point is that because Ruthsatz scores more doesn't necessarily make him better than Pangallo. Not saying he isn't a great player...I think Pangallo is just as good at his role.

I got off topic: Best 2 players at each position and not a team because I dont think Bolden and Ruthsatz could play well with each other (both have to dominate the ball)

1st Team:

PG- Bolden

SG- Hatton

SF- Hemmerich

PF-Trentman (best stretch 4 in NKY 9th or 10 Region!)

C- McDonald (he is not a 4)

2nd Team:

PG- Ruthsatz

G- Bach (Augusta) if Augusta is out then Jeremy Jackson from Scott

G- Holbrook (20 pt scorer and tough as nails)

PF- Schuh/Schulte

C- Chames (best pure shot blocker)

Honorable Mention:

Burns-Brossart, Crim-Scott, McClendon-Holmes, and Pangallo

McDonald can easily move out and play a 4. He has a great touch and good range up to 20 feet. I think you will see more of that this coming season.

I'm a pretty big Matt Mullins fan. He's got a great motor.

Agreed. According to those in Independence, the kid works on his game everyday.

I think he will start. This kid works so hard, and over the next few years I project you will hear his name a lot, and will see his production in the box score. He is down right now with a bum ankle, but knowing him he is finding a way to make his game better.

PG-Bolden (Pangallo definitely next)

2G- Ruthsatz

3- Hatton

4-Schuh (Trentman is pretty close to Schuh just havent seen enough of him outside of his sick dunks on Youtube..lol) Schulte has shown glimpses as well but I would put him behind these two.

5-McDonald

I might as well join in. My lineup

pg Bolden

2g Hatton

sf Trentman

Pf McDonald

C Chames

I'm actually comfortable with these selections by Asher. With such great talent in NKY it is hard to chose one over the other by position.

What I've noticed with the names listed throughout here, there is not one really dominate 5 like we have had in the past. I love Sculte's game, but he has just not shined as of now. My guess he will show us what he can do this year. I've always said he has potential to be player of the year in NKY. But when you combine him with McDonald you have your best bigman tandom we have seen in years. Hatton and Bach both made the Ky Jr. all stars this year, yet they should play the same position (2) and you have to pick one over the other? Brutal choice. Lot's of athletic big men such as Schuh, Trentman, Hemmerich, Chames--all can shoot, rebound and swat some shots. Bolden and Ruthsatz handling the rock for your team (along with Pangallo) gives you some of the best point guards we have seen in years. Holbrook can do so many things offensively it is hard to overlook him.

Great talent in NKY? The talent in NKY is mediocre at best. Who's being considered for Mr Basketball? Who's scoring a double / double? Who's dishing out (averaging) double digit assists? Who's scoring over 20 point a game? Bolden and Hatton are the only two who fit this mold. While Schuh, Trentman and McDonald all are good players, there is nothing special about their game. Pangallo would be a bench player with Bolden and Hatton on the court. While he handles the ball well he's not as polished as the other two.
