Coaches Association game for basketball is being played in June of this year as always.

Correct. I think it's at Holy Cross.

I heard from a coach that it was cancelled due to lack of commitment by the players.

Not surprising. I've reffed these a few times and , to be honest, it's not organzied nor well-attended.

A few years ago one team had 8 players and the other had 4.

Would not be a surprise as it has not been well attended the past few years. Very little has been done to promote it or make it worthwhile for the players

I have plans to make it a success and much different than years' past.

Can't really go in to detail yet, but it will be worth the players time and will be promoted much better. So many resources that weren't used before. Honestly the coaches really don't have the extra time needed for the event.

Add in that the game will be played sooner, and we have high expectations for next years' event.

So they canceled it for this year (somebody better tell the Enquirer) and are trying to pump life back into it for next year?

Is this a senior showcase/all star game? Did same thing happen to the football version of this as well? Did they take a year or so off?

I'm guessing if kids have already committed not much sense in playing in an all star game. most are probably working out with their new school?

I've heard it's cancelled this year. Football was cancelled last year. They went a similar route by getting with Tom Gamlbe to help put it back on the map and make it a week long event, vs one night thing.

The All Star game that I will be putting on next year for the NKCA will be one that consists of the best players in NKY, regardless of class. In years' past, it was simply a sr v sr and jr v jr event for both boys and girls. I believe each school had a rep in recent years too? Coaches will vote on the top 10 seniors, top 5 juniors, and top 5 sophomores for next years' game. That could be changed, but that is the plan for right now. The teams will then be split up by votes...for example, the two best players in NKY will be on opposite teams, and so on down the list. This creates more opportunity for ALL members to get playing time. (Another incentive for kids to participate...guaranteed playing time...TBD at a later date what the format will be.)

The biggest change in the game will be a simple one...holding it sometime in March when everyone is still in basketball mode, v the summer when everyone is involved with football, baseball, and AAU.

These are just a few things that I had in my proposal when asking to take over the organization of the game. The coaches have been very receptive to the ideas I've thrown out to make it happen.

Two things: 1) seniors who will be attending NCAA schools cannot play in all-star games against underclassmen. 2) good luck getting players in NKY. You'll have 2nd tier players no one wants to see.

Interesting. I wasn't aware of that.

Thanks. I guess I need to get with the KHSAA on this. Looked that up and noticed this was an issue in New Hampshire. Thanks for the info.

The freshman class is very good as well. As much pub as Weyer and McClendon get and have received, an unknown frosh by the name of Steffan Green at Holmes is probably the best in the area. You heard it here first. Kid will be best in nky before It's all said and done.

Speaking of unknown, one of the other Holmes freshmen has already gotten a D2 look.

Only.one I can imagine would be Arnold or Moore?

I know Englemon is having a solid summer.

Thought there was an article in the sports section this weekend about a NKY game being played in June? Are you helping organize this year or next years game?

In the paper today Skinner confirmed, via Brad Carr, the game for this year was cancelled.

I hate to string you along but what the heck -- it's all in good fun. Think hard. You've forgotten one player from that group.

Steffen Green and Ceon Lucky are the best freshman Basketball player of this group at Holmes,

I've mentioned Markel McClendon, Steffan Greene, Drew Arnold, Brandon Moore, and Brennon Englemon.

Only ones that would be left are Keyon (sp?) Lucky and Ian Brolley...unless there's a new frosh I don't know about.
