Best position by position NKY

Great talent in NKY? The talent in NKY is mediocre at best. Who's being considered for Mr Basketball? Who's scoring a double / double? Who's dishing out (averaging) double digit assists? Who's scoring over 20 point a game? Bolden and Hatton are the only two who fit this mold. While Schuh, Trentman and McDonald all are good players, there is nothing special about their game. Pangallo would be a bench player with Bolden and Hatton on the court. While he handles the ball well he's not as polished as the other two.

Thanks for your input...always a breath of fresh air to get the glass is half empty perspective.

McDonald can easily move out and play a 4. He has a great touch and good range up to 20 feet. I think you will see more of that this coming season.

McDonald can and WILL play the 4 in college. No doubt in my mind.

Kid dominates in the open gym I help with. And he does it against other college level players. Very polished around the rim, has great footwork, nice touch on his mid range game, and can also step out and knock down the 3 with consistency.. People don't know this though because he played a different role for NCC.

If you haven't seen Drew lately, he has also lost probably 15-20 lbs and grown an inch or two. Watch video from the region tourney that I posted and look at him now. The transformation is very noticeable.

Great to hear. A lighter, leaner Drew McDonald is going to be a pain to deal with in the 9th.

I had only seen McDonald a couple of times and then saw him this spring and had to look twice to make sure it was him.

It's not a half empty perspective. Go back 10 years and find any player who has the same averages as any of these players and see if they have made a dramatic impact at the next level. My point is not to be critical, but to be realistic. I've stated it before, Northen Ky is a weak basketball region although competitive within itself. I wonder if the local college coaches feel the same way because I don't see too many local kids on the current rosters ?

Holbrook of Campbell averaged over 20/game last year. Young man can score the basketball! With the Moeves' in town (Tanner who averaged 17, which is pretty close to 20) Pangallo may get to double digit assists in more than just multiple games.

When people say great talent, or competition, I think they are talkin about this area. No one is talking about d1 players, other than Bolden and Hatton, but I see a bit of d2 level talent on the way, and that is ballin'! Funny now, how people just scoff at D2 basketball....

Just because the region doesn't consistently produce D1 talent, doesn't mean the region is weak. NKY is consistently putting kids at the next level. You must not realize how hard it is to earn a D1 scholarship in hoops.

And for the, record, Bolden, Hatton, McDonald, and Schulte are all receiving D1 interest or currently hold a D1 offer. 4 D1 caliber players is far from being weak. Add players like Chames, Pangallo, Hill, and Ruthsatz, among others who are receiving interest from D2 schools, and this region is far from weak when it comes to talent.

The freshman class is very good as well. As much pub as Weyer and McClendon get and have received, an unknown frosh by the name of Steffan Green at Holmes is probably the best in the area. You heard it here first. Kid will be best in nky before It's all said and done.

Was at the NewCath "open gym" a couple of nights ago.....WOW, you are correct about Drew!!!

Also, all 3 of the Moeves boys were there an they looked good from what I saw. Jake Schulte looks like he has been working on his "10-15 foot" game, was knocking down shot after shot. Coach Dawn has to feel like he has it the "jackpot" with the talent he has for this year.

Had Tanner there last week. Will step in and basically be Beuter 2.0. A little bigger muscle wise but around the same height and has a similar game. Really like him. Attacks the rim hard and has a good looking jumper.

Schulte needs to get stronger around the rim but you're correct in saying his mid range game is improving.

My guy absolutely loves the kids I've brought over to open gym. Said nky is loaded with quality bigs and athletic guards. Very high on McDonald and Hill of Holmes.

Had Stuhr there last week and Drew Shelton of Cooper has been a regular. Can't wait to get all of them in the gym together this thurs.

Even better? The coaches association has given me the thumbs up to handle the NKY All Star game next year. Big plans for the area to give the kids more exposure.

Thought there was an article in the sports section this weekend about a NKY game being played in June? Are you helping organize this year or next years game?
