Been going at it pretty good the last several weeks. Love the intensity and the coaching that takes place in each session. Kids come out exhausted which is nice to see. Turnout has been pretty good so far. All rising seniors have been at practice, there are a handful of juniors to be and about a dozen rising sophs.

 

There are practices about 4 times a week now, with scrimmages mixed in along the way. Yes Beau Hoge has been there most every day and Griffin Urlage has been spotty at best. Most are familiar faces to those that have followed the program the last few years.

 

Coach Listerman has been a breath of fresh air and that is no shot at the prior staff. He is much more demanding of the kids and holds them accountable for getting to practice and working hard while they are there. Not saying this team will be a regional champion, but things will be a little different this year IMO.

Not too bad for setting up on the fly Im sure. Good news is they are getting reps.

Testerman is a very good coach and this is what I expected him to bring. Some energy and hopefulness back to the Bluebird program. I have been doing some research on Highlands and it wasn't that long ago that they 3-peated the 9th region.

I've pretty much stayed away for a few years. I just couldn't take it. Sounds like Highlands may have finally at least made a positive move for the program.

First set of scrimmages is on tap for tonight at HHS versus Ryle and Holy Cross. Interesting that these are the three schools in NKY with new coaches. Gametimes are 5:00, 6:00, 7:00 and 8:00 with JV in middle school gym and high school in the main gym. Curious to see how these three teams play since the new coaches have been on the job for such a short time.

I assume you are talking about Nick True. What hoops team stuff will he be doing after the dead period? It is my understanding that a good portion of the team will be getting ready for the upcoming football season and will be responsible for making time for themselves to work on basketball as time permits. Hopefully many are willing and able to stay after football practice some nights and shoot some hoops.

Anybody can comment on last night scrimmages at HHS? How the teams look? Stinky or JOAT did you catch the action?

Not bad for the first time out. In game one, Holy Cross shot lights out from behind the arc and Birds struggled to guard a little and I believe Holy Cross won the game, but had to leave. In game two, Birds outscored Ryle 27 to 5 in the first 20 minute session and Ryle cut that lead to 8 in the second 20 before Coach Listerman called a timeout and challenged his players and they went on another nice little run to put the game out of reach. Thought the kids competed hard at both the JV and Varsity levels and it is very clear that if you do not play hard and/or defend you are not going to play.

 

Tomorrow comes a real test against Cooper as the Birds are definitely playing a little short-handed right now without True, Houliston and Hoge currently out.

If I left someone out JOAT or Stinky please add on.

Where was Ramey? I fully expect him to be a Varsity contributor next season with his space eating ability as well as solid footwork around the bucket.

 

From the names mentioned looks like there wasnt a lot of VArsity experience out there. Hergott was out the entire season with knee injury and Buten hasnt played in a while with the shoulder surgery. Green, Weyer and Harris were probably the seasoned veterans out there as they got ample minutes this past year in Flynn's ring around the rosy substitution patterns.

 

I think Daugherty/Cain and Hebel have the ability to earn some Varsity time as well so getting good reps in the summer is good for them.

Sounds like there are quite a few FB kids showing up. I can understand being a little on the tired side being that some of them have quite a full plate. 2 or 3 hours of basketball then 2 or 3 of football then some playing summer baseball. So much for all the talk of Dale not wanting kids to do anything but FB. I understand he is attending some of the practices and is pleased with the work ethic. JAOT do you have a list of the FB kids showing up at BB? Good to see the multi sport kids doing their thing....
