I would rate Cantrell's ratings right up there with some other great ideas, like the BCS standings.

Sure, the Cantrall Ratings aren't perfect. But barring every team in the state playing all other teams in the state at least once, I'd like to hear a better idea. Everybody likes to gripe about this ranking and that ranking, yet no one ever offers any real solutions how to get past the fact that just about any team of comparable talent can beat a similar team on any given night.

On the other matter, you're right; and I expect some kids from the JV ranks to step up and surprize in the 10th this year, and quite possibly on the top ranked teams!!

The AP poll seems to work well.

The AP poll is subject to the biases of its voters. Very often, teams from outlying areas of the state get ranked ahead of more deserving Louisville and Lexington teams with less impressive records against much tougher competition.

That's rich. Seeing how large swaths of the state are unrepresented by an AP member paper, and many of the member papers play homer and vote for their local teams even though the teams are undeserving, the AP poll doesn't even come close to working (unless it's your school getting the benefit of the doubt).

These guys would all played and started varsity as frosh in the 16th Region.

 

 

I'd say Novosel of Lex Cath probably could be on this list as well and was only a soph this past season.

They would have played in 16th, some would have started depending on which school. I think the same could be said of this group in any region in the state except 6th,7th or 11th. Some would have played in those particular regions as well, but I doubt any had much chane of starting.
