I think this team will be good. I think it will depend on the playing of the qb (Elkins) and his decisions on the throws he makes. Seen the kid play 2 yrs ago thought he was a better qb rolling out did not like watching him drop back last yr at all. Also depends on if the backs can hold on the ball this yr also seems like I seen in the stats sheet alot of fumbles last yr. I dont think this team will be as good as the 09' team but I would like to see them prove me wrong.

You make some good points and I believe that with not only Elkins I think the main advantage this team has is experience. Yes, not only the qb but all backs and receivers have to hang on to the football, all have had problems with fumbles that have basically lost football games. I may be wrong on the number but one Fairview game I think it was 6 or 7 turnovers, you are not going to beat anyone giving the ball away like that much less a good team like Fairview. One Ashland game I believe that it was 5 turnovers. That cannot happen and expect to make a deep playoff run. The 09' team was a good one for sure. Raceland has had several very good teams through the years. I remember the 75' team with T. Howell, C. Campbell, T. Rose, M. Mills, F. Brown plus several others. That team lost to Ludlow in the schools very first ever playoff game. Ludlow went on to win the state title that season. Raceland lost to the eventual state champion in several years. Ludlow, Bellevue, Beechwood, NCC, LCA all have knocked the Rams out on their way to a state championship.

Raceland football has a long standing winning tradition but have never gotten a title. I am not predicting a regional or state championship this season but I definitely think that this 2013 team has as good or better chance than any previous team has had.

Another thing that this years Rams cannot do is start listening to everyone telling them how dang good they are and that they don't start letting all the newspaper clippings get in their head so much that they think all they have to do is show up.

 

2013 Rams......you haven't won one football game yet, you haven't done a thing that countless other Raceland haven't already accomplished. NO State championship, NO Regional Title. There have been several Ram teams that have won multiple District titles in their four year high school career...you haven't. NO ONE is going to look at you, lay down and quit just bc you're Raceland. Talk or print has never won one football game. Go out every practice, every minute of every quarter of every game and play hard and things will take care of themselves. Go out and expect everything to be handed to you and good luck the ones that play basketball bc your football season will be over far earlier than you want it to be.

The coaching staff always has a winning game plan...the players have to execute it to win. The coaches can't play for them. Mental toughness and player leadership will be the key to a successful season in Ramland.

The playoff game between the Rams and Pikeville I was told that the team only watch film on Pikeville for about 20 mins and the rest of the week it was Fairview. i have been told by a few people that this happened if so I would think the coaches would know better.

^ Your post wasn't for me and I don't know for sure but do know how well the Rams fine coaching staff prepares their team each and every week. I obviously don't know the ones that you are talking about and frankly don't want to. I don't think that would be right and maybe you shouldn't listen to those people. :idunno: Just sayin'....

It will be great meeting new people and hopefully running into friends I have not seen in a while. Of course at my age I have forgotten so many I have met on here that it is sad.

Are you basing your opinion on Raceland or the fact that Fairview stands in the way?

Im basing it on history. Theres 3-4 teams that are better on that side of the bracket. They moved Beechwood to make it easier on the East. I like Harlan to return to the finals.

Does Raceland still have a bunch of guys from Coal Grove and guys that should really be playing for Russell?
