Does Raceland still have a bunch of guys from Coal Grove and guys that should really be playing for Russell?

That's what i heard. That's why I'm asking. Its a question not an accusation. Big difference. A question can hardly be construed as false information. Just looking to see if what i heard was true.

I think most people can see what is a question and what is a shallow attempt at rumor making. The BGP faithful are a pretty smart bunch. No further information needed unless you can name some players.

Oh, and if you are only asking based on what you heard, give us the source from which you heard it from. That would give a lot of validity to your "question" and help us to know you are not just a trouble maker, but truly asking the question to determine the truth.

I read where a few people were thinking Raceland was a state title contender. I thought that was odd, given their history of never winning anything.

 

I spoke with a former Russell player who told me about Russell guys transfering to Raceland. I wondered what the attraction was to Raceland. Is it a top flight school system? Are the kids leaving because of something they dislike at Russell? I'm not from that area and don't pretend to know the reason. I don't know any of the kids names. I knew they couldn't be attending Raceland because of past football success.

 

I then asked 2 different AD's I see regularly. Both said they heard Raceland was getting guys from Coal Grove, Ohio and kids that should be at Russell. No one I talked to gave me anything concrete. I think your rumor mill got confused. As far as I know, Raceland has never had a single football player from Coal Grove in it 90 years of existence. One kid did transfer to Raceland from Coal Grove a couple of years ago, but did not play football. Fairview has several seniors football players to graduate this year that transferred from Coal Grove.

 

Kids from Russell? A few here and there, some because their parents got jobs at Raceland and they brought their kids with them, some because they didn't like Russell and some because they moved. I think we currently have two football players who live in Russell's School District and both of them transferred before they were in high school. One of the players who currently lives in the Russell district has been at Raceland since third grade and never attended Russell.

 

Raceland is a great academic institution, so yes, some of the transfers would be for academic reasons. That is why there are transfers from Greenup. Now if you would have asked about transfers from Greenup I could have told you that we do get those yearly, mostly for academic reason and many of those don't play football, and many of those are in elementary school.

 

On the football success, I guess you have to take into account what you consider success. No, Raceland hasn't won a State Championship, but I would venture to say if ask anyone in the area if Raceland has a good football program, they would say yes. Raceland held a five game winning streak over Russell when Russell declined to renew the series this year. Raceland has held winning streaks over Ashland several times, with Ashland being the largest school in the area that happens to have a pretty good record as well. Success? I think so, you may not.

That same school won very little to nothing at all in their football history before around 1990-92/93 and the out of state transfers. Maybe some are getting confused, just sayin'.....:idunno:

Always reason why the Rams get beat, gets old listening to it. Raceland gets more transfers than most schools yet nobody says anything, Ashland gets a bunch yet nobody says anything. Russell got kid from Mayfield nothing said. Fairview gets some and lord they are awful and recruit. Why wouldn't you want to play for them? Whole backfield to college this past season, head coach is young and good at what he does, facilities increase, and program on the rise that helps kids get into school. I respect the Raceland program and respect the fans to a point but it gets old reading same ole stuff, just get better and win. First of all, I wasn't or never have made any excuse why Raceland gets beat, you will not find it in any of my thousands of post. When Raceland loses, I give credit to the opponent and acknowledge that Raceland was beaten by the better team on that particular night, never because of any other reason and I believe that anyone on here can say that. If not then show me where and when I made any excuse.

Now....... I didn't mention a schools name in my post so that tells me that you knew it was Fairview. That further proves what I said about everyone knowing who it is with out of state players. All I did was mention what is pretty much common knowledge state wide and absolutely everyone says the same thing. I made no specific accusations, just stated facts that is common knowledge.

As for respecting schools from this area advancing in the playoffs I do respect all kids at all schools and always am very glad to hear when any kid can advance to college and get an education while playing the game that he loves. I can abslutely promise that you never have or never will see a post of mine bashing any high school kid for anything regardless of the school.

Having said that I will also be completely honest in saying that I respect every schools program in this area, state for that matter except for Fairview (not talking about their kids/players at all), I just how some things have been and are done there and not just about the players. That may be wrong but it is honest. I am talking about how certain things are done and that I know that have been done there. Anyway, I was just responding to your post and will not go on any further about it. I have not and will not elaborate on that bc this is not the place and I respect bgp rules. So as they say it is what it is.

Should you be a Fairview fan then I am glad to have one and hopefully we will have more on bgp.

I do sincerely hope that all kids that are playing at all schools (including Fairview) go through their season injury free and stay healthy throughout the season.

Lets get ready for opening kick off in August and talk about the games then. I think that we all can agree on that.

Yes sir I agree old rambler I wasn't trying to be upsetting and yes I respect all programs just gets old listening to it sorry it's beating a dead horse I'm just an overall football fan that likes to see local teams do well. As far as you not agreeing I wouldn't think any true Ram fan would like that Fairview is no longer a doormat and can play.

Ncstate, as a lifelong Fairview fan, I have a question. I heard a rumor from someone I trust and I'd like to hear if you have heard it too. I heard that McPeek's former teammate Sammons at Cabell-Midland in WV had to run McPeek off for checking out kids at their facility. True? or Not?

I dont understand the feelings between Raceland and Fairview. The last 2 state title losses my Mayfield Cardinals suffered, beside the Hazard loss in 2011, were to Lexington Christian in 2009 and Neport Central Catholic in 2005, both private schools. You will not find a single Mayfield fan having a complaint over them being privates. Our believe is that we dont deserve to be the best unless we beat the best reguardless of how they got to be good. Dont worry about what others are doing just focus on being the best and you will find it makes yourself and everyone else alot happier.

I doubt that is true since they are best friends. Nate, also has more class than to pull that kind of stunt. I did hear Midland landed one of Huntington's best RB's. A reliable source informed me that Donte Hendricks is now enrolled at Midland. Donte ran a 4.4 sec 40yd at the NUC. Raceland fans should be happy that he didn't transfer to Fairview. A few more Huntington players, including the other best RB, is looking to transfer, don't be surprised if some land in Ashland.

In all honesty, Raceland and Fairview don't have that much bad blood. It's really not fair to lay it on Fairview because that gives the perception that it's the fan's and player's fault. It really is feeling toward Fairview's coach. With previous coaches at Fairview, everyone got a long, but when McPeek came to Fairview, he seemed to bring some bad feelings. I guess he wanted to rekindle the rivalry. Because, to be honest, it wasn't that much of an anticipated game in most years. But, just prior to McPeek being hired, it did get a little interesting. What McPeek has done is make the game about him versus Raceland. He jumps and screams and yells while marching down the sidelines. I just don't like that from a coach. Now if the Fairview fans, administration, and players like it, I guess it's alright, but I think that turns a lot of people off to the school. Again, more about him then the program. Just like when Fairview would show up at a team's home field with their dark jerseys on. Just a spectacle for Fairview, when it was really McPeek, not the players or the fans.

 

You brought up LCA, ask the LCA fans what they thought when Fairview came to their stadium for a play off game. They were pretty outspoken about it.

 

I'm not sure what you mean about the "Private" thing, neither Raceland nor Fairview are private.
