On a side note UPS refused to be part of Castaway with Tom Hanks...how much was that movie worth in name recognition for Fed Ex.

Send the pics to UPS with the location, let them know that next time the police will be called and they will have to deal with the fine, i'm sure they will get the message. Some people don't realize, it doesn't matter if there are other open handicap spaces open or if anyone with one needed a place to park. It's a slipperly slope, if you allow one person to do it for one reason, then others will do it for other reasons, fine them all and then it will stop!

 

As far as handicap placard abuse, I am sure most people have a phone that can take video, videotape the person doing stuff they shouldn't be doing, send it in to the state with a complaint, I am sure they will get their placards taken away.

Again, I don't know Kentucky law, but here you can be arrested and fined a minimum of $250 just for parking in a space without a valid placard or license plate.

 

This UPS driver has no idea when a person with a disability may need the space, so whether somebody needed the space right at the moment he happened to be there is not relevant. A person who needs the space should not have to get out of their vehicle and ask somebody, who should not be in the space in the first place, to move. It defeats the purpose of having the space to begin with, doesn't it?

 

If it were me, I'd take the number off of the truck, call UPS to inform them that I plan on reporting the incident to the police and follow up by doing just that, providing the picture to both.

I've probably seen more people WITH placards abuse these spots than people without. If you can walk into a business as well as I can, you have no reason to be in a handicap spot. Just my two cents.

Thats because fed Ex loses all their customers packages and has nothing to park and delivery, so they spend all their time in the library on BGP! lol

If there was only one parking place then I would say bad UPS guy. But there are two. They are probably 99.99% unused and the two times we have discussed this that is the case. So probably 100% of the time there is a parking place available for peg-leg parkers.

 

If either spot was not open when he arrives he should not part in the other spot.

 

There is not indication of a spot large enough for the truck to park in. So the alternative to using one of the 2 spots is to just stay in the lane - blocking both hdcp spots. Until we see a picture with both hdcp spots being used simultaneously I say what he does is fine. There is a difference between really 'parking' in a hdcp spot and using it for a turn around for 2 minutes.

BGP has great surveillance skills. We know you put the moped in the Handicap space because you saw Guru entering Krogers, and we know you keep "Borrowing" the UPS truck and parking it in the handicap spaces in front of the office that Guru visits.

I have to "beat up" on you too Bluegrasscard. I really enjoy reading your posts on BGP but I thought your comment was over the top.

I know bluegrasscard personally and I know he didnt mean anything by it and made a poor choice of words to get his point across. Im sure he will apologize for that next time he is on.

Sorry, you and I agree on most issues, but not this one. The places are reserved for those who would need them. I don't care if there is 1 or a 100 of them. That's why they are there. I don't care if the truck is there for 1 second or an hour. It is the law for the business to provide the spaces and it is the law to keep them reserved. If the UPS driver violates the law he needs to be reported to the authorities and it needs to stop. Black and white. No grey area. The same goes for placard/plate abusers, as far as I'm concerned.

 

BTW, if the driver is only going to be there for 2 minutes, why not park in a regular spot and run the package in. Even if he is unloading an enormous number of packages, we're talking no more than 10 extra feet to park regular.

 

The fact that there is no space large enough for the UPS truck is between the business and UPS. Let the truck take up 2 regular spots then, or is that too much of an inconvenience for the non-handicapped public?

 

I've quite never understood the angst against handicapped parking spaces. Being unable to walk or walk properly, is not a privilege. Providing the means to make peoples lives, who have those problems, a little better hurts nobody, nor does it cost anybody anything (short of paint and a little space). If I have to walk farther to make sure that provision is maintained as best as possible, I'm OK with that.

Oddly enough, after my rant, the term didn't bother me. Still doesn't.

 

I guess I fall into the camp of "I don't care what you call me, just don't call me late for dinner." crowd. Mrs. S, the one who could be offended, is in the same boat.

OK, sorry for using a term that is considered 'offensive'. We just always called the spots 'PL' spots. 'Oh there is a spot...nope is a PL keep going....' Sorry to anyone who took it as disrespect. Not meant that way. It is needed service and should be respected for any and all who use these.

 

I just think the poor UPS driver is taking a beating where one is not warranted. He is not 'parking'.
