April 4, 201313 yr So instead of using it when it isn't needed they should remove it and then put it back up when needed?Yes, that is the proper procedure. There's a little slot in the ring that holds them on. You can take them on and off with one hand.
April 4, 201313 yr So instead of using it when it isn't needed they should remove it and then put it back up when needed? As I understand it, you're not supposed to drive with the handicap placard in the window anyway. It's supposed to be removed while driving and only displayed while parking. And if that handicapped individual was being picked up at SOAS? I know of many individuals with handicaps that use the bowling alley for example. Appearances can often be deceiving. SOAS is Guru's gym for those of us not local to NKy. I should have been clearer. I don't have the same problem/questions that guru has. I don't approve of people abusing the handicap stickers, but I'm not quick to judge or question the validity of a placard. My nephew suffers from a disability and has a handicap sticker as a result of the disability. I know that his parents get some strange looks (at least initially) when they park in a handicap spot because they're not disabled.
April 4, 201313 yr While attending nku I tore up my ankle and had a temp handicap sticker. These were back in the days of no back packs. I was on crutches and had to juggle them and the books. From that point forward I swore of never abuse the handicap spot. We carry one in Mrs. TACs car as she often has to haul grandma around. Also had one for my day when he was on the decline. NEVER have we abused the use of the placard.
April 4, 201313 yr I don't understand what you mean by "irony." I must be missing something. You are too handicapped to walk from the main parking lot but you are able to do manual labor work everyday? Irony. I'm not talking about people who sit at a desk. I am talking about people who are out on the floor with me everyday.
April 4, 201313 yr That's not the point. Why would you use it when you are not in fact handicapped? Your internal compass didn't even alert you. That is what I find troubling. I understand completely.
April 4, 201313 yr I will say this. I will NEVER do it again. It didn't seem like a big deal to me at the time but obviously it is. To those I have offended for my internal compass that is far from normal I do apologize. I see the error of my ways and will try to do better going forward. My apologies.
April 5, 201313 yr We had one for my mom for the last couple years she was with us as she suffered from a multitude of issues that limited her mobility. My 85 yr old dad has never used it. He can drive but walks very slowly. Even in the cold Wisconsin weather when we worry about him slipping on the ice, he won't use it. His words, " The doctor prescribed it for your mom. My doctor never prescribed it for me." Gotta love the World War 2 Vet mentality. The Greatest Generation.
April 5, 201313 yr If there aren't free gym memberships then you won't see any raging entitled liberals in there talking on their Obamaphones while not allowing other paying members to use the equipment they are using as a seat to talk on that Obamaphone. Can't tell whether this comment is racist or classist. Edited April 5, 201313 yr by Twotoplace
April 5, 201313 yr Author This was a much more interesting thread than I thought it would be. I promise everyone I will be on the lookout for Grandma Dynamite at the gym and I will report back if I catch her working out.
