What a waste of our time even discussing this.

I saw it on Sportscenter and they are asking people to hashtag #GrinerNBA and to tweet to them what you think about it. So I did. I hate ESPN more and more each day.

How so?

A big disservice to women's basketball because she would have no chance of making an NBA team! A quick guard that is an extremely good ball handler/passer and long range shooter maybe has a chance as a role player, but a 6' 8" post player....none.

No woman can ever play in the NBA. I don't care how big or small. Not possible. Ever.

She can be a shining star in the oh so popular WNBA. She could have a very positive impact on the WNBA and how it is viewed. She's bound to be on USA basketball teams in the future leading our women to gold medals and she is liable to take the worst franchise in the WNBA and turn them into one of the best. Her impact on women's basketball will and should be large. By not playing in the WNBA she'd be doing the women's game a huge disservice.

They are also making it seem like she is too good to be playing women's basketball and actually has a chance in the NBA. (cue the Vince McMahon theme music.......)

This goes hand in hand with those "Could Women's Team A beat Men's Team B?" threads we've had. The answer is always no.

Sad that this is being discussed. I would take any post player from any mens college basketball team in the nation before I would take her. Not trying to does her but men vs women are on completly different levels here.

Sort of like Michelle Wie playing the men's golf tournaments?

It can work and be novelty. But does it translate into success for the overall team? Hard to see that.

I liked this for no reason other than that I immediately had "No Chance" pop into my head...

Because you could prevent her from scoring. Cuban is now causing people to have a discussion of "can it really happen" and the answer is simply "no." That's not good for the women's game as it causes the casual fan to take a hard look at the quality of play. No win for the women's game.

It can't work and it's not anywhere near being similar to golf.

My only thought on this would be, by people questioning if Griner could play in the NBA, might it spark interest in her, which could eventually bring a couple viewers over to the WNBA? I'd say no, but it might be a slight possibility.

And for the record, no way is she good enough to play in the NBA. Or the D-League. Or the CBA. Or any European leagues.

On the other hand, couldn't it help women's basketball by publicizing one of the game's best basketball players?
