Is Jeter a Top 5 Yankee of All-Time?

Featured Replies

I heard someone this morning give Jeter the nod because of the Jessica Alba factor.

Nope. For sure top 10....

I'd go with Ruth, Mantle, DiMaggio, Gehrig, and Rivera.

That would be my list as well. Rivera because even if he is "just a closer", he is BY FAR the best closer of all time.

Jeter locked in a battle with Berra for the #6 spot.

I don't want to turn this into another closer discussion, but there isn't a closer on the face of the planet that I would put in the top 10 on any team's best of all time. Closers do not make that big a difference in winning games.

Greatest closer ever? Yes.

Still can't put him above the heart and soul of the Yankees.

I'd say he's about a 6...Who does everyone think the Number 1 player of all time in the Yankees?

Isn't the debate really who #2 is?

So Jeter is ahead of Berra? Whitey Ford? Reggie Jackson?

Is he considered that great because so many Yankees have had short runs in the pinstripes since Free Agency in the 70's?

No way is Rivera more meaningful than Jeter. Go look at games played between the two. Can't really compare the two.

Nope...it's The Iron Horse...IF and it's a big if, he doesn't get sick he may have approached or even surpassed Ruth. Gehrig is greatest 1st baseman of All-Time and solidly the #2 Yankee of all time.

IMO the battle is for third between Mantle and Dimagio.

Most would disagree but obviously we're talking about an elite player.

Disagree as best First Baseman or as second best Yankee?

I thought you meant he was the BEST Yankee. Sorry, I re-read and now see you meant him as #2.

Yeah Ruth is easily #1 but Gehrig is solid at #2 IMO

With all the Yankee greats it would be very hard to pick a top 5. Having said that, with what he has meant to the Yankees on and off the field, D. Jeter is the Ambassador for the Yankees and all of MLB . Jeter's career excellence, long time team captain, number of WS rings, etc. then I would say yes, D. Jeter is a Top 5 Yankee.

With all the Yankee greats and legacy one could argue Top 5 Yankees all day and would have a good argument regardless of which one of the many greats you put on or left out.
