April 1, 201313 yr Saw a poll on twitter from ESPN First Take (I think) that 65% of people think he is in the top 5 All-Time for the Yankees. Is he in the top 5? If so he's 5th at best right? Ruth, Gehrig, Dimaggio and Mantle are in. So has Jeter meant more to the Yankees than Mariano Rivera or Yogi Berra?
April 1, 201313 yr I would say Rivera then Jeter, but they've had so many greats it's hard to make a list of the top 5 without leaving off some great ones.
April 1, 201313 yr No, top 10 though, which is still pretty incredible. Agree with this. Probably around 7 or 8
April 1, 201313 yr Author I saw an on-line ranking on Bleacher report that had Jeter 3rd behind only Ruth and Gehrig
April 1, 201313 yr Nope. For sure top 10.... I'd go with Ruth, Mantle, DiMaggio, Gehrig, and Rivera. But I thought that you are one of the "closer is the most overrated position in baseball" guys? Give me Berra in the 5th spot. 15 time All-Star and 3 time MVP. He was also on 10 World Series Championship teams.
April 1, 201313 yr Depends. He's easily going to be one of the 5 most famous Yankees for both NY fans and other fans. In terms of on the field greatness, I'd say he's top 10 but closer to around 8 or 9.

Closer in general is an overrated position (although I'm fairly confident your attributing someone elses opinion and quote to me), however that doesn't mean a dominant pitcher can't be a top 5 Yankee of all-time. Nice try though. Regardless of position, Rivera is one of the most dominant pitchers in all of baseball. His effectiveness for such a long period of time makes him a top 5 Yankee.

Does it trump a 3 time MVP and 10 time World Series Champion? At the most difficult position in baseball?
April 1, 201313 yr Does it trump a 3 time MVP and 10 time World Series Champion? At the most difficult position in baseball? I'm pretty sure I listed my top 5 already. Don't know why you're asking a question that's already been answered.
April 1, 201313 yr It is a battle between Jeter and Yogi for number 5 IMO. Top four in order - Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, DiMaggio.
