I can confirm that Wera did it on her own. Zimmerman was not in the meeting and did not know about it until after it happened. My understanding is that Wera is the district wide AD and reports directly to the Super and not the principal. Thus, if she wants to fire Rash -- she can!

Someone who knows how school hiring works please correct me, but my guess is Principal Zimmerman would have input if the coach were a teacher. Since the coach is not a teacher, the line of command probably goes from the AD to the Superintendent.

Like Mustang said earlier, you won't find a guy more loyal and passionate to his alma mater than Michael Miller was to the Beechwood Tigers. His dream job was to coach at Beechwood and the goal of making the program competitive on a season-by-season basis was a challenge that he embraced. Their brutal schedule the last two seasons proves that Miller was not afraid to play anyone. He wanted to make his team better and, regardless, of their wins and losses he made the program better. I feel for Michael Miller because he had a vision for the program that was respectable. I 100% feel like he got a raw deal. I wish him the best and hopes that someday he gets another shot at a NKY school, maybe even at Beechwood again.

I respect Horace’s reply to my question on why The Guru and others believe the Beechwood basketball program is setup for failure. Mostly because I agree with the commitment bit but also because Horace didn't blame it on the schedule. Regarding sharing athletes, you are competing with the other sports from Day 1. Some people think Day 1 starts in junior high, but I think it really starts in something like third or fourth grade. By fifth or sixth grade an athletic kid has already associated himself with one or possibly two sports. This is the sports world we live in today.

 

On a side note, the gym situation just sucks, but in my opinion kids get better by playing AAU basketball which is practiced and played outside the school gym. Also in my opinion, grade/middle school basketball and school sponsored summer clinics are just the conduit to get the kids/parents energized to play AAU. If a boy or girl isn't playing AAU basketball they are not really serious about becoming a solid high school basketball player. This seems to hold true for baseball, volleyball and soccer where you have AABC, Club and Select respectively. If you aren’t playing at the highest level you can play at outside of school then you aren’t serious about being the best you can be at that particular sport.

Good point Crosley. Today, all the sports except football are big on the club/select level and that starts at a young age.

The beauty of NKY is that the kids in the pipeline today are not necessarily the kids that will be in the pipeline when you get a new coach. Kids are very open to switching schools for the right opportunity. Some kids have relationships through non-high school basketball teams/instructors. Those can have an impact.

 

So can a coach change the pipeline at BW? I'd say yes.

No coach can change the mentality about basketball at beechwood as long as the parents pull the administrative strings.

Joe Fredrick to Beechwood makes zero sense. I am not saying it would or would not happen, just that it would be an epic failure if it happens...

Your last point I agree with however I think that strong personality will lead to fighting with many of the powers that be at Beechwood.

 

If they hire him, I think it could be as bad as one and done.

 

With all that said, it would be great for business if Beechwood hired Fredrick so have at it Suzy!
