In my opinion, it hurts not having at least one coach in the building. They need to be forming relationships with those kids in the hall to gt them to come out.

I buy the bold part. The coach has to work on getting players to play. Boone County's new coach has been talking to every athlete in the building about playing football. Brossart has outstanding athletes. The coaches need to approach these boys who aren't playing and talk to them about the value of playing football.

Perhaps if Northern Kentucky only had two private schools in a metropolitan area, as is the case in Louisville, perhaps those two schools would become the preeminent football schools here as well.

It's an idea that's been brought up before, discussed at a high level and dismissed.

 

The primary and foremost goal of high school athletics is participation. If all the platitudes of high school athletics are true (you know: life lessons, good for academics, etc.), thus justifying the expenditure of tax dollars on high school athletics, adults should do everything within their powers to increase participation.

 

Unfortunately, I can assure you that if classification was based on roster size, there would be many a coach in Ky that would run off players or cut them to make sure his team ended up in a lower classification, thus hurting not helping participation numbers.

 

Yeah, someone would find a way to screw the system.....in some cases though, it wouldn't be so bad to cut players in high school football lol.

Maybe combining cov Cath and NCC you might have a team that could beat HHS year and year out....adding Brossart to NCC would only make them slightly better. Same for cov Cath if you added holy cross to them. Combining all four would put them where? 5A? 6A? 5A you would dominate, 6A your good until the finals....damn you trinity......

Agreed, if you combined CC and NCC, you'd have a shot of doing something every year and I think if you had the right coaching staff, the right program in place and the support, you could play with the Trinity's over time. Once you breed that kind of success, more players would migrate your way...just like X and T.

I know the bold has been discussed by many on the site, but I have to say it again. IMO if a coach tells a kid not to play another sport, or says something like "You will never reach your potential if you play another sport", that kid better be a sure fire college player in the sport, to the extent that the coach will pay his college education if the kid doesn't get money to play college ball. I wonder how those coaches would deal with that rule ... if you pressure a kid not to play another sport, you are responsible for their college education if they don't get money to play your sport. It is totally selfish on the part of coaches who do this.

Why don't we get back to Bishop Brossart, and leave all the talk of combining them into another program for another thread.

Who is "in the building"? The summer school kids?? He JUST got there, after school had let out for summer. Just curious how he's making contact??

Its hard to buy the participation argument when BB cannot field a freshman team and NCC has to use sophomores in their freshman games. Not sure about HC.

 

You're talking Freshman ball! Let's look at a bigger picture than one class.

One big hurdle that Brossart has (and any other small school to a lesser extent that does the same) is that they have a successful soccer program and cross-country program. At a school of less than 350 that makes it tough to start a football team from scratch and then sustain it. If Brossart and NCC and Holy Cross did not have soccer like Beechwood, Lloyd, Newport their numbers would be much greater.
