I'm sorry but how is Newport different from any other city school? I liken them to any Cincinnati Public school, Louisville, or some Lexington schools. Their closest resemblence to me is Holmes. Coach Russell got Newport to the Sweet 16. It can be done, at city schools you need a long term coach like Holmes found in Henley and now Booher. Can't be a resume builder. If I was AD at a city school, I would look into the legality of making coaches sign longer than a year contract.

 

I agree with your some of your notion redhawnnation, but Russell left immediately after that Region win to coach at Campbell County. Henley left too, and is at his second place already after Holmes. So it may not be different, but the coaches don't seem to stay long either.

I think Henley was at Holmes 10 years. Can you tell me the longest tenured active coach in NKY right now? I think off the top of my head it's Jim Hicks, Steiner, or the coach at Scott all at or just above 10 years. That's Pretty much status quo for a coach.

My guess is that Dave Faust (St. Henry) has the longest tenure currently at one school.

Why would this be a bad hire? If he can turn Newport around he could turn Ryle around especially with the pool he has to draw from and 2 middle schools the feed the HS. If you are commenting on his style of coaching it looks to me like the results speak for themselves. 20+ win season this year in Newport and a region semi-finalist is pretty darn good IMO.

Yes that's when he took over and it's not like Newport needed turned around. They have always had talent in the building. Ryle is not in the same situation.

Ross Hart of Holmes isn't an option for this opening...I've confirmed that.

Why would you need to inform your current school you are applying? Once you are selected and know you are going to accept the position is the time to inform your current school. Otherwise, if your current school knows you are looking maybe they start looking to replace you with someone who would be happy to be head coach.

 

If Mike Code would apply for this position I think he would be an excellent choice. I do not see him leaving BBHS next year but could see him change anytime after that. I think this year will be his 10th at BBHS. I hear he is meeting with his entire staff and team on March 18. I think they are covering up the meeting by calling it the team banquet.

Has anyone of these guys applied?

There seems to be some good upcoming younger coaches that are from NKY. I have not heard these young mens names mentioned much and I was curious of why not. I got to watch Nicholas County vs. Montgomery County in the Regional and thought that Coach Reinhardt did a great job of game planning and seemed like his players were well coached but just out gunned. His players listened and play hard. I did some research and saw that he went to Campbell County, NKU, and Georgetown. I thought he does a great job, has a great sense for X's & O's, and will make a fine coach one day. What can you tell me about him? I also got to watch a game between Robertson County and Silver Grove. It seemed that the kids from Silver Grove played hard and responsed well to Coach Aldridge (according to a parent he coached at Ryle, multiple colleges, and professionally in Iceland.) Again I heard this from a parent so don't quote me on this. I did however notice he seemed sharp,fiery, and passionate about the game and his players. He always was coaching and talking to his players. Neitherteam looked to be very talented so it was hard to tell but kids seemed to like him and the style of play. Who can tell me something about him? Also another young coach that caught my eye is Ross Hart (Beechwood Grad) from Holmes. After getting to watch them in a few games this season it always seemed that he was on top of his game. During timeouts he was doing a good job of getting the info the head coach needed. Also he always seemed to stay cool and really relate to the players. What is his story? I also got to watch Coach Blevins in action. He seemed like he was accute to his surroundings and his players. Seemed to very organized and ready when Coach Sullivan looked to him. What is his background? Finally another young coach that seemed to be on top of his game was Marlon Brey from Newport. He also seemed to relate well to the players and looked as if he was in tune with the game. I got to speak with Coach Snapp at the Regional Tournament and he had nothing but great things to say about Coach Brey. Who can tell me more about this young man? It seems like all these young men had something in common: work hard, players respond well to them, ethusiastic, and compassionate for their players and game. Now again this is just my opinion and I have only got to see some of these coaches no more than once. Having talked to people around NKY and it seems that most of the schools in the 9th Region like to go after local guys. Good luck to all of these young men and all the others who are coaches. I am not really familiar with the Silver Grove program and only got to see one game this year vs Brossart, but it seemed like there was not very much talent there. They did play hard the entire game.

How many NKAC division III games did you see this year? Talent level there overall is down. They were probably pretty consistent 2nd choice for conference behind Ludlow. Had a 1,000 point scorer and everyone returning from the previous season. Ask anyone in that conference and I think they'll tell you that they were better than 8 wins total.

Didn't see many division III teams at all. All I was saying was the talent was not very good, but Sliver Grove played hard. That's a tough place to coach!
