Former Current TV chief news officer and host Keith Olbermann is talking to the head honchos at ESPN, possibly about rejoining the sports news giant where he worked from 1992 to 1997. In fact, based on the details in a just published New York Times piece, the outspoken commentator has been exploring the idea of returning to ESPN for quite a while now.

"After the dinner, at that point, there was no real appropriate place for Keith to come back, nor did I feel like I was prepared to bring him back," Skipper told the Times. He explained that it is difficult to rehire talent at ESPN, because "when somebody leaves, somebody else fills their place."

If it happened, good or bad for the world of sports and ESPN?

Bad. The guys a dill weed, uninteresting at best, complete waste at worst. I doubt many would want to see him come back either, my opinion. I've never understood how he appeals to anyone.

IMVHO if ESPN hires him back it would be a very hypocritical move on their part. Weren't they the ones that let Rush Limbaugh go because of the comments he mad about Donovan McNabb?

Keith should see if Dan will hire him on the other network.

I loved the guy when he was first on ESPN. Not so much anymore. I find him to be pretty contrived, and not all that interesting, and really annoying. Really, none of the "old" ESPN guys do much for me anymore....Dan Patrick, Stuart Scott, Kenny Mayne, to name a few. The only one I can still really watch and listen to is Rich Eisen. While I used to really enjoy watching sportscenter, and used to watch it a few times a day, I'm pretty much down to just watching it on Sunday mornings. The internet has replaced filled my news need, and the announcers aren't interesting enough to make me want to watch their take on events.

I love Dan Patrick's radio show.

 

Olberman needs a foil. Patrick was that for him for a long time. It kept Olberman from dominating the scene and just offering another view or delivery that complimented/contrasted Patrick. If you give him a forum, and allow him to be the primary voice, you will get what every one has come to detest.

God no. If you've ever read the book about ESPN (These guys have all the fun) he comes off as a total a$$. Throwing full pots of coffee because they were not his brand, etc.

 

Does an ESPN anchor draw ratings anyway? Seriously, do you turn it off when Jonathan Coachman (ok, bad example) is on? No, you are there for highlights and stories.

 

Olberman had a run, went way off to the left on MSNBC, lost the battle to Bill O'reilly and then Current TV bombed and now he wants back to sports. I just dont think people will flock to the TV for Keith Olbermann. He wasnt that good on his spot appearances during Sunday Night Football.

ESPN sucks. They may as well bring him back because they'll suck whether he is there or not
