All public school sweet 16.

I rank the top 4 as

Ballard

Madison Central

PRP

Hardin or MoCo

MoCo? Montgomery County? I really haven't kept up with high school basketball this year.

In my opinion, the top 3 are: Ballard, Montgomery Co, and Madison Central. I will be shocked if someone wins outside of that threesome.

So those 3 are head and shoulders above anyone else in your opinion? Which two of the three are in the same bracket, or are 3 in the top or bottom bracket together?

Yes MoCo that is what I call them all the time.

Don't count out PRP, but they will have a harder road to the finals. Believe that Ballard got the better draw.

For the sake of illustration, I'll call each opening round session a 'pod'.

In the Wednesday morning pod, Madison Central opens up with Wayne County. The winner of that one plays the winner of PRP and Holmes. This pod is definitely the strongest, and most balanced top to bottom, IMO.

I'd expect Wayne County to be very well drilled and fundamentally sound. With that said, I think that they are a year or two away based on what I've read, and I'd look for Quan Taylor of Madison Central to have a big game on the interior. That, as well as Hawkins and Bosley's maturity and athleticism allowing them to bully* some of the younger Wayne Co guards is probably going to be the difference in this one. *I use 'bully' not in a pejorative sense, but just in a way to put the reader in the mindset of them using their size, strength, quickness, and just overall maturity to give Wayne's younger kids problems.

PRP and Holmes is probably the most appetizing first round match-up on paper, all things considered. I know that PRP really slowed Bullitt East down in the regional semi, but I'm interested to see how they'll try to play against Holmes. Really look forward to seeing how the Bolden kid from Holmes performs in this one (and possibly more) as well.

The Wednesday night pod has Graves County / Ohio County and Hopkinsville / South Oldham.

I know Hop-town was there last year and had somewhat of a younger core then, so I might give them the slight edge in this one because of that experience. This, along with the next pod, are the two I know the least about, so nothing would shock me here.

The Thursday morning pod has Fleming County / John Hardin and Warren Central / Montgomery County.

I'd say that Montgomery County is the favorite to come out of this pod, but as far as my knowledge (and I'm guessing most other posters' given the amount of members who post about these regions), it wouldn’t surprise me to see any of the four come out of this one as well.

Warren Central probably has some experience from kids who've been to the big show before, and their region is played at WKU, so they might not be as shell-shocked as some might think.

Fleming County is coached by Mark Starns, so I'd expect them to be well coached and to play disciplined, but I don't know what their talent level is overall.

John Hardin has a really nice record, but hasn't really played a number of teams outside of their area.

The Thursday night pod has Ballard in a pod with the 13th, 14th, and 15th.

Ballard should roll through to the semis. They'll open with Johnson Central (and Shane Hall), then likely play the winner of Clay County and Knott County Central (Cam Justice, Evan Hall, Simon Christian).
