I've seen Knott County play on two separate occasions this year and think they could be dangerous if their shots are falling, but Ballard's quickness, athleticism, and depth/bench would give them fits. IMO, probably the worst matchup in the tournament for them to have hopes of pulling off an upset.

If Fleming can rebound it, they will be respectable vs. JH. I'd pick Madison Central if I was gonna choose a horse. Ballard vs. MadCen will be epic if that comes to pass.

Everybody watch out for Hoptown.

No small schools in this year's tournament. Smallest school is Knott Central (606).

 

Average enrollment of the 16 schools is 1,149 students.

 

Of the four unclassed state tournaments held this year (boys basketball, boys and girls soccer, and volleyball), there have been five Class A-size schools (600 students or less) advance to the state tournament.

 

The average enrollment in three of the four state tournaments was over 1,000 students.

I'd be interested to know more on Ohio County, Warren Central, John Hardin, South Oldham, and Fleming County.

 

To a lesser extent, I'd like to know more about Graves County and Hopkinsville as well (didn't get to go last year, but could always watch some of Hop-town's tournament games online if really needed).

 

I know that Graves County is coached by Terry Birdsong, and I remember seeing some of their other Sweet 16 teams play (against Central and Eastern), and remember his Calloway County team getting down to Rupp and being beat by Warren Central ('03), but don't know a great deal about this year's team. I would imagine that the style of play of those teams was dictated by the athleticism on the other side to a degree. How might their strategy and style of play change (if at all)?

 

Also, if anyone knows, how has Warren Central's style changed since Riley has departed?

I absolutely believe it's going to take a spectacular performance by any other team to beat Ballard.

 

But it's happened before.

MoCo is 0-4 against good athletic teams. Soon to be 0-5. Warren Central is good enough to beat MoCo and they will on Thursday at noon.

I'll take the underdog...Holmes all the way. ; )
