As a parent of children in Fort Thomas Schools, the webmaster has started sending out these "advertisements" to all parents for extracurricular activities, etc. Yesterday I received an advertisement for a new youth football league. Campbell County Peewee Football is trying to recruit our kids for cheer and football. I did some checking and this is not Red Devils, nor the feeder program that has recently been created for Campbell County. It is a completely different team. Apparently this gentleman is attempting to form teams to play in the Boone Co Youth League. I honestly don't think their are enough kids for more teams. Plus, I think it's awful gutsy trying to recruit kids away from Fort Thomas to play football. That would be like recruiting kids to leave Campbell County to wrestle elsewhere. Thoughts?

 

My understanding is this group has zero affiliation with Campbell County Schools, Campbell County football or the Campbell County Youth Football League that feeds Campbell County High School. This is apparently a group of disgruntled former Red Devil parents that are recruiting kids from the FTJFL, CCYFL, Newport, Bellevue, Dayton and even Kenton County NKYFL kids to form teams that will play in the Boone County League. The contact on the email is a NewCath graduate that was a Red Devil coach last year.

Well, it certainly sounds like all those proponents of "school choice" in Ft. Thomas are feeling a little threatened at the prospect of kids being diverted from their precious varsity program! What happened to all those assertions of open competition we heard about all last year????!!!!

 

Actually if you'd pay attention you'd see that most have no problem other than improper use of the system.

Last I checked the cake factory is located in Campbell County. If neither league is funded by public money then both should have the same access to advertising in the schools.

I hear his son played Red Devils last year and he wasn't impressed with coaches so he took his son and now is trying to build a program around him. I spoke with someone who knows him and I doubt anyone will bite on the bait of leaving their established program to venture out with a new program filled with resent toward their former program and uncertainty. I don't feel threatened at all. I have not seen one message come across about FTJFL through our email system. You know why? Because they don't need to.

To see some folks get nervous about another pee wee football league because they dare "recruit" players from the area in question is kind of funny lol. There is never any recruiting done into other counties in the area for a certain county now is there lol.

There is no affiliation with the Campbell County Camels or their CCYFL. This league was formed when two coaches butted heads at the Red Devils and allowed their egos to get in the way of what the NKYFL/red devils stood for. The name that is on the email would not let his son play for the other coach next year and decided to start his own league trying to bury the Red Devils. Not sure how he gained access to the email addresses but he did. He is a new cath guy but the bottom line is that two grown men let their egos get in the way of why people coach at the youth level and now the kids are the one paying for it. Sad but its fact. Ftjfl will be fine. I don't see this new league lasting.

Not really worried about anyone setting up a system to compete with Fort Thomas. Actually, welcome it. It only makes football in Northern Kentucky better than it already is.

Anyway, when was the last time FTJFL lost anyone to another league that was of any relevance?

I don't have an answer to your question because to tell you the truth I don't concern myself with such things. I love high school sports and get more thrill out of a little known school who doesn't have advantages of some other schools that has a big year. I always tend to get more excited over the underdog doing the unthinkable than a heavyweight winning all the time.

 

But that's just me. That's why i think this thread is funny. For anyone to worry about the possibility of a Highlands losing a player down the road is kind of funny. If any kid who is good enough to play for Highlands as an example, would pick another school won't happen the majority of the time. The one's that might go elsewhere are players who mmay not get playing time on a team like Highlands and may go elsewhere just so thhey can play (just using HHS as an example, don't read too much into it). If that happens I really don't think Highlands will lose anything. Plus the fact we're talking about pee wee football makes it even funnier to me.
