February 26, 201313 yr Former Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o has refused to blame his poor performance during the BCS national title game on the stress resulting from the knowledge that, inevitably, the story of his fake dead girlfriend would be exposed. On Monday, Te’o blamed his poor performance during the 40-yard dash on the overall stress of the Scouting Combine. “I was running near a 4.6, a 4.5,” Te’o told NFL Network after officially clocking a 4.82-second 40-yard dash. “Today was just a long, long day.” Te’o called the Combine a “very exhausting process,” explaining that he got to bed late and got up early, with roughly four hours of sleep per night. Of course, Te’o experienced plenty of mental stress, too. He met with 20 teams individually, and he endured a packed-house press conference on Saturday. February 26, 201313 yr Author Every time this young man opens his mouth his draft stock drops. Excuses, lies, manipulations... No way I draft him for "my" team.
February 26, 201313 yr Every time this young man opens his mouth his draft stock drops. Excuses, lies, manipulations... No way I draft him for "my" team. If his pro day goes better, I take him in the second or third rounds for sure. He needs to not be a 1st round pick. That will be the best thing for him and allow this snow ball to die. He did it to himself, I agree. However, he needs to get out of the limelight, where he obviously isn't equipped to be, emotionally and mentally.
February 26, 201313 yr He'll get drafted regardless but he has lost A LOT of money over these past couple of months through his actions on and off the football field.
February 26, 201313 yr Author He'll get drafted regardless but he has lost A LOT of money over these past couple of months through his actions on and off the football field. No doubt he will get drafted. We often hear of certain players being off several teams draft boards for a variety of reasons. Te'o would be off my draft board.
February 26, 201313 yr Following this performance just imagine the stress he will be under on his pro day - so is it a 4.9 40 on his pro day?
February 26, 201313 yr Following this performance just imagine the stress he will be under on his pro day - so is it a 4.9 40 on his pro day? 4.82 is probably right. He looked like he was playing in title game with cement buckets on his feet. I hope Sunday afternoons are not stressful for him... :idunno:

February 26, 201313 yr Couldn't stand him months prior to the girlfriend thing. Can't stand him even more now. Seeks a lot of attention and wears those damn flowers everywhere. I pray he goes to any team but the Bengals.

Te?o blames slow 40 time on Combine stress | ProFootballTalk On its own, I could potentially buy in a little to the explanation about the BCS championship. His explanation about his Combine results is clearly an excuse, and is clearly bull, though. Every player there has that same amount of stress - and the guys who weren't Heisman contenders probably have more stress simply due to the fact that they have to do more to show off and improve their stock. By making such a poor excuse about the Combine, it makes Te'o's excuse about the BCS championship MUCH less believable.
