:thumb: Agreed..Thanks rockmom

The KHSAA already has rules in place in "contact" sports that

limit or eliminate the possibility of middle schoolers playing

high school sports.Just extend that to all sports. Then if

the 6th grade "Suzy" is that talented in golf she will have to keep playing

in Junior tournaments. There she can move up to different levels and try

to medal. Its not as if her "oppurtunity" to play would be taken from her.

Just would not be able to play high school until in high school, seems simple.

Under the proposed ban of 1 or 2 years if she would go to a school other than her assigned feeder school, she would be ineligble.Whether she played sports or not,

that does not sees to be to logical.

Another reason coach's move players up is to get them into the "program"

as a way to entice them to go to school there.Yes,I know some schools

do it so they can have enough to field a team.If that is the reasoning for allowing it

that tells me that chances are the ones they are bringing up are for nothing more

than numbers,not ability.

I saw a girl that was an 8th grader playing Softball for Southern last year, actually two girls. They were interviewed in the paper because they were 8th graders good enough to start on a varsity softball team. In the article both girls said they were not going to Southern for high school. One said a catholic school and the other said Manual. As a coach would you let these girls play for your team as 8th graders if they plain out told you that they weren't going to come to your school? I wouldn't. They might help you have one decent year but thats it. I believe these girls shouldn't have been able to do that. They basically used Southern. Thats why Coaches are mad but at the same time Southern's coaches shouldn't have let them play to use them. We had a couple 8th graders want to come out and play freshmen football for Moore a couple years ago. THey went to Moore Middle but straight up told the head coach that they weren't going to attend Moore High. The head coach told them no. "You aren't going to use us. We are not going to train you to come beat us next year" Is it wrong that they are told no? I mean after all if they don't like the coaches philosophy then they can play youth ball right?

Your first sentenance above is like a line from an Alan Jackson song..."Whos usin' who?" Its an interesting question The poor coaches who cry 'unfair' are also trying to lure and lock in talent by using the middle schoolers. Then they get mad when it backfires on them.

The second part is also interesting. If middle schoolers are used to fill out a team and keep the team alive then the practice seems reasonable. However, what if talented middle schoolers, who have a team to play on in middle school actually take a spot from true high schoolers and the true high schoolers are denied the opportunity to play the sport because there are young guns coming up behind them that the coach wants to lock in. This is another troubling angle of middle schoolers playing HS. And one ripe for abuse and for denying the more average student/atheletes an opportunity.

A reasonable approach would be to allow middle schoolers to be able to play ONLY if the roster is not full with actual HS players.

It seems like the coaches would be the ones "using" the kids to me.

I think there is enough blame to go around, a lot of cases coaches are to blame and in a lot of other cases parents need to take their fair share of the blame. Unfortunately parents never see themselves as a problem. They always use the old standby statement of "I'm just doing whats best for my kid". Well are you really? Often times looking out for their kid isn't what is always best for the team..IMO Parents have gone way to far in the last 10-15 years and I don't see it getting any better.

Yes you start out with a clean slate in high school. There is no sitting out a year or anything.

Not yet.

I don't think that until a person has been involved in a small school, they cannot appreciate the need to have some middle schoolers on the high school teams. There arises problems when a sport cannot field a team, if that is a girl's team. Then you run into Title IX issues. That could have a negative impact on one of the boy's teams (possibly not being able to play).

Okay then a question? If you use middle school aged kids to fill out your high school teams rosters, then shouldn't the middle school numbers be added to your high school student bodies’ total enrollment number, and would that increase be enough of additional students put you out of class "A" into "AA"?

You can't have it both way's. If the middle schoolers play on the HS team then all of the middle school students should be added to your HS numbers.

Wouldn't matter right now except in Track and Cross-Country. You can't use middle school kids on a Varsity Football team as it is a contact/collision sport as per the KHSAA. And there are not classifications in any other sport.

However, if other Sports are eventually classified then you have an interesting point.

Nor can you in soccer either, as it is considered a contact sport too! :D

But I am glad you understood my question! It would be a tough choice for a high school to use middle schoolers, if it caused them to move up a class, as in most cases a middle school is almost as large/larger than the high school.

I think you see more girls contributing at the Varsity level than boys. Girls are generally done growing by the 7th or 8th grade. That can't be said for Boys. Girls are generally more mature than boys in MS as well.

Excellent point.
