January 27, 200620 yr I agree but presently they do not. Then here's a brainstorm, why not change that rule????
January 27, 200620 yr Then here's a brainstorm, why not change that rule???? That proposal was defeated in October. Not sure why?
January 27, 200620 yr You are 100% wrong here. The KHSAA is in no way shape or form in the business of parity among teams. The KHSAA is is in the business of enforcing rules. If a school can follow the rules and still be athletically superior to most o other schools so be it. As to the whole middle school question, Indiana does not allow middle school kids to participate in high schools sports and their whole world hasn't fallen apart. It is high school sports not middle school/high school. Not 100% wrong, you and I just disagree on the mission of the KHSAA. If they were not partly in the business of parity, classes would not exist.
January 27, 200620 yr I know far more then some people wish I did. I wonder, when you called the KHSAA, what did they say?
January 27, 200620 yr So everybody gets greased, right??I'm sorry, I really don't mean that in a mean, sarcastic way, I just mean for you to think. Is a bad solution for everybody, satisfactory to everybody? Let's just lay the real cards out and quit with the posturing. It is slowly coming out what the real "heartburn" is about. Coaches salivating over grade-schoolers, can't wait till they get up to them, and then they decide that they want to play at "X" school for"X" coach. Coach upset, cries of "recruitment", unfair!!, should have been at our school. As a coach, I don't recall ever coaching AGAINST a player. I coach my players. I prepare my defense for what the other player can do. And excuse me, the coaching does not get easier with great talent. You should be coaching the same no matter your talent level. The "results" may be better with a higher talent level, but you took the job to coach the kids that want to play on your team, not whine about the kids that decided to go play in another "yard". So how high are you willing to build the "fence" to try to keep kids in?? Even "KING KONG" eventually busted the gate. The ones who built the "high gate" got trampled into toe-jam. Kong crashed and burned. Is that what you want for yourself and the kidsd? The selfish woman before Solomon cried" YES, CUT THE BABY IN HALF, THAT IS FAIR!!!". Solomon wisely went with the woman that cried "SPARE THE CHILD!!" Can we do less than he did?????
January 27, 200620 yr Not 100% wrong, you and I just disagree on the mission of the KHSAA. If they were not partly in the business of parity, classes would not exist. The KHSAA MISSION STATEMENT: Mission Statement of the KHSAA The KHSAA shall establish, promote and deliver the highest quality interscholastic athletic programs and activities in an efficient and progressive manner that emphasize participation, safety, sportsmanship and integrity to enhance the educational experience of the student-athlete.
January 27, 200620 yr Author If they were not partly in the business of parity, classes would not exist. Agreed. Creating parity is important to meet their other stated goals. BTW. Using the Commissioner's Notes publication as a guide it looks the mission is: Participation, Sportsmanship and Integrity. http://www.khsaa.org/cnotes/20052006/january06.pdf So I would say parity is important and reasonable to meet their other goals. Teams that have absolutely no chance will not work. However, reaching parity at the expense of the very first goal is my issue. If Participation is one of the 3 key goals a 2 year BAN on PARTICIPATION is complete counter to that mission statement.
January 27, 200620 yr Not 100% wrong, you and I just disagree on the mission of the KHSAA. If they were not partly in the business of parity, classes would not exist. If they were in the business of parity, then classes woud exist for all sports. As it is they (KHSAA) must only like parity in football and track for some reason. And the KHSAA that existed for public schools before private schools were around wasn't trying to hold and fund separate championships in all sports as they would be doing under Prop 20. And since football and basketball are pretty much the only championships that make money, and given that those would make less money being played separately, the financial future of the KHSAA would be in peril.

Cross Country too. I really never understood why CC is classified and others are not. Does size of school affect how far you can run??? Do the schools have an annual cost they have to pay in which the additional cost could be PARTLY absorbed? I am not sure that there would be a huge difference in costs for most sports. You would not bring 32 teams to the basketball sweet 16. You would still bring 16. 8 in public and private. Not sure where the great increase in cost would be. (Let me add here, my proposal is out there in this forum and it did not call for classification based on JUST public/private.)
January 27, 200620 yr This is yet another reason why two years is too long. A lot of parent/middle school kids will have no idea of the situation that they could get stuck in! This rule is silly to me. What happens if a kid is in a Private Middle School and the parents lose their job so he can't afford to go there anymore so he goes to a Public High School as a Freshman. The kid can't play High School ball until he is a JR because his parents lost their job!!!! That is ridiculous in my eyes! The people driving this thing really need to think things out before they run and vote on them! Kids are the one's that are going to end up getting hurt! I was thinking of the same thing. :thumb:

(Let me add here, my proposal is out there in this forum and it did not call for classification based on JUST public/private.) I don't pretend to have all the answers to Prop 20 situations. I would think that things would have to be just as they are today. In that you would bring 16 public school Boys region champions to Rupp Arena and play a tournament Wed-Sat and you would bring 16 private school Region champs to Rupp Arena for a tournament Wed.-Sat. Same thing for the Girls at WKU. Same thing in Baseball say. The final four public schools meet at the Lex. Legends field and then the next week the final four private schools meet. Remember the private schools are KHSAA members and nothing would change in the regular season just as nothing would change in the post season other than separate championships.
January 27, 200620 yr So a question might be arisen in the private school world that they look into lowering the cost for private high school or they might see a drop in attendance at the private grade school. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Much easier said than done, since they receive no public funds. It would be impossible for the smaller privates who are on a very tight budget.Almost all private schools which close --do so because of finances.

I don't think anyone does as far as your first comment. I would word it equal but not necessarily same as today. And I don't see it being different weeks because of the length that would add to the season. If it was held back-to-back-to-back-to-back weeks, you would need 4 weeks for the Sweet 16 girls/boys privates/publics. Baseball could be alternate days but not weeks. Lastly, I don't believe you would get the corporate sponsors for two weeks. But could have Wednesday final 8 for public, Thursday final 8 for private, Friday afternoon, final 4 for public, Friday evening, final 4 for private, Saturday evening, the two championship games. Year 2 you switch them. Privates go first, publics go last.
January 27, 200620 yr I wonder, when you called the KHSAA, what did they say?  What are you even talking about? I'm not some sort of KHSAA watchdog. It wouldn't do any good even if I were to call them but your comments are typical of someone who has attended or supports a private school. I would expect nothing less. :ylsuper: :walk:
