Is there a financial piece to this discussion? I haven't heard $$ mentioned in the "seed vs. draw" discussions (may have missed it though). I would assume the regional participant gets a cut of the door. As long as there are two dominant teams in the district, the others will be motivated by $$ to vote for the blind draw. Seems that any meaningful change would have to come from the KHSAA (state level)...and they should change it IMO.

I'm completely for seeding . However, NCC wasn't going to win the region.

Seven of the eight teams aren't going to win the region, but that is no excuse for not having the best 8 teams there. This really hurts Highlands as someone in the other bracket gets a "bye".

this is a topic that separates the haves from the have nots....remember the young men and women of Newport, Bellevue, Dayton all practice and sacrafice their free time and usually are juggling a part time job as well. Remember this is High School Sports and student athletes come from all size schools and should get a chance to honor thier schools in a regional game if possible. I believe Donna Murphy came from Newport back in the day so small schools have produced a baller here and there.

 

Glad I caught the game last night and enjoyed the scrappy play, Highlands were beastly at the free throw line which is a simple fact pounded in players from the beginning, FREE points. Hope next year Nicole Kiernan can lead her team to the sweet 16 as the youngsters around her mature and find their groove. Sorry, it just wasn't this year.

Back when Donna was playing Newport was a large School.

I do not want to hi jack this thread but I get sick of the complaining about a blind draw when you also get to be in a district with a group of smaller non competitive schools as well...............You want it both ways.....

 

Remember Newport (who had always voted to draw) is the 2nd largest school in the district. But now that they are competitive (on the Boys side) they vote to seed and not blind draw NCC. To me that makes perfect sense given the stupid rules the KHSAA allows for its premier tourney.

By the way all you Title IX fans......................I guess next time Highlands hosts the 36th district they need to consider moving the Girls game somewhere else as the gym could not hold everyone. But hey no problems on the Boys side.

Has nothing to do with the haves and have nots, any kid from any city can find a ball and a basket to practice at! Are you saying that Highlands and NCC kids do not sacrafice,practice and have part time jobs?

What ever team has the best record in the season deserves to be seeded #1 regardless of how big or small that school is.

Heck, Highlands has an unfortunate and unadequate facility compared to all the other Dist 36 teams, Just sayin...

From where I was there was no room to sit for the Girls game and several times fans were trying to squeeze in somewhere to not block views. About 1/4 to 1/3 less people there for the Boys game.

I was very impressed with the way the Highlands guards took care of the ball late in the game and drilled their FY's. I heard they were 23-26 from the line. That is simply amaziing and what I like to term "Cashing in".

 

Congrats Sweep, your daughter exudes some major toughness on the court.

 

Combs and Fisse played very well like Horst stated. Adler could put on her own Free Throw Shooting Clinics on Saturday mornings at the Armory and make Bank. Her form is unreal and her rythmn at the line is key.

 

Sad to see a loser in this game as NCC has a very good Team. Kiernan is an absolute beast. She rejected a shot, collected the ball and took it coast to coser for a layup. You dont see that too often from a Big.

 

Sheafer has some nice skills but she needs to step it up and assert herself more if the Birds want to win the Region.

 

Guard play and FT shooting were the Keys I saw as i caught the game from about the midpoint of the 3rd Qtr til the final buzzer.

Can anyone shed light on this aspect of the post season...is there $$ shared by the schools that advance to the regionals (hence the desire for a blind draw for possibly the small schools); and two...IMO...the smaller schools have the All A so therefore the districts should be seeded to get the best teams/games for the regional...

Yeah...Sorta like NewCath gets to have their cake and eat it too...LOL

 

Maybe they should make NewCath pick one or the other? Either play the All "A" or play the Open Tourney, Pick one, anyone../

 

I can guarantee you which one they would prefer in the heartbeat. I'll bet you if someone polled the NewCath players, fans and administrators they would all vote the same.

Of course they would prefer the "big" tourney, that being said, they work hard to be in BOTH.
