You are comparing apples to oranges, in Title 9 no female sport is compared to Football thus the Football BCS games are irrelevant according to Title 9. The question is does the KHSAA even fall under Title 9? Most schools/organizations that follow Title 9 receive federal funds. I would assume the KHSAA receives no federal monies? Or do they? These monies do include any federal grants.

 

That is how I read Title IX - federal dollars must be received to be under the auspices of the legislatiion.

NCAA womans Final four in New Orleans Areana 18,500. NCAA Mens Final Four Georgia Dome 60,000 plus. I would assume under some of the arguments given under Title IX this would be a violation. I havent heard Geno complain yet though. Like I said before, If the girls moved to the YUM Center it wouldnt be good enough. Its all about comparable facilities. I have yet to hear a good argument as to why Rupp is better than Diddle for the Girls tournament other than UK plays there.

To me it is nostalgia, how many times a year is Diddle on national TV, how many professionals have played in Rupp versus Diddle, same thing for National Champions? Much more of an experience for a young man or lady to say they played at Rupp. Not taking away from Diddle but those are just a few reason that come to my mind!

Frank, I agree with you wholeheartedly. KHSAA makes darn sure girls have equal access to equal facilities all season long. I've experienced/witnessed lots of this. But it doesn't apply to Sweet 16's, and I think that's garbage.

There are a lot of things about title IX that are good. And a lot of things about it that are garbage.

 

Post season venue is not something that needs addressing currently. Rupp and Diddle are both nice places.

If boys was at Rupp and girls at Louisville Garden, then there would be a problem.

Why would girls want to play in an arena that is 3/4s empty? Why not play in a smaller venue with a greater atmosphere and what seems like a bigger crowd? I've been to both. Let me assure you, the girls are treated equally, if not better than the boys, by Houchens Industries. They are not cheated at all in regards to the state tournament.

It's real simple. Either you host both, or you don't get either. Schools feel title IXs financial pain, why shouldn't the khsaa?

They can't but as I think Big Green Horse said you could play both at Rupp at the same time just like the All-A does. It's not like Rupp is being used in the mornings or mid-afternoon for something else during the Sweet 16. That would not even cost the KHSAA money. All you have to do is staff more shifts but the price to rent Rupp should be the same as it is now for the Boys. Maybe add playing the Championships on Sunday (as it is this year) and make even more money.

 

And again if the KHSAA is going to make schools take money hits during the regular season in the name of opportunity then the least the KHSAA could do is be consistent in the post season about opportunity. If not, then ease up during the regular season.

They don't play at Rupp because 20K people do not go watch girls basketball games. WKU, IMO, is an excellent venue for girls sweet 16. Perfect size, great city, generally an easy travel for most. With that being said, in the 4th region, both boys and girls play their region tournaments at WKU.

Go play the girls Sweet 16 at Rupp and see if it doesn't have the environment of an "open" practice at their own school gym.

I don't get it. I just don't understand why everything has to be made to feel like it's equal. Heck, I know some soccer teams who pitch a fit to play on the football field; you dont even know there is a crowd.

 

For the record, I'm not meaning to be disrespectful; for what it's worth, I hate watching baseball, but love watching softball. As a matter of fact, I'll watch two good HS softball teams over 2 good baseball teams any day of the week.

So you put them both in Rupp. Then you have a REAL title IX issue because prime time would come into effect.
