I thought the refs did a pretty good job. I saw the Highlands game as well, and I remember one of the crew having a bad game that night. The only "bad" call I saw tonight was the double technical. Cahill did nothing to deserve a technical.

Very good game but I expected it to be a little more high scoring. Can't wait for the Highlands/Holmes game. That being said, I AM NOT making excuses, they did not lose this game, the better team won the game but the 9th region refs, to me, just don't seem to appreciate CCH. I saw a few bad or missed calls tonight and I believe that this is the same ref crew that did the CCH/Highlands and I saw a few of the same types of calls tonight. Missed charges, charges that were blocks and vice versa, they didn't have any bad traveling calls they just missed a few. And yes, they had maybe 1 or 2 bad calls for CCH but it just seems like to me that they are missing the big calls and calling the little stupid things that no one cares about like pushes and stuff. Anyways, kudos to both teams. Can't wait till regionals.

This game should have never been close. Holmes with a 14 point lead at half time and they played a slow down game in the second half and all most lost the game. Henley needs to turn his kids lose in a full court game and then no one in the 9th Region would touch Holmes.

 

Henley said after the game that the 'turning the kids loose' is what hurt them in the 2nd half. Too much 'my turn to shoot'.

That's the man. There were occasions tonight when three of four big men went up for a rebound, and Arez would simply rise above them and hang there for the tip in. Melvin would rize an hover like that... thus the nickname.

I would venture to say that CovCath had something to do with getting with 1 point after a 14 point deficit, not all Coach Henley. Holmes is not untouchable.

 

I totally disagree because I have seen Holmes on numerous occassions the last two years and Henley is making a big mistake by not opening up the middle for Jefferson. Henley could run a spread offense and let Jefferson drive and dish out to the other players.

 

Holmes mistakes tonight were mostly self inflicted, not because of CovCath's pressure.

There were quite a few outstanding individual plays by various contributers throughout the game. Edmondson hit some nice shots, Tierney made some incredible moves including a strong layup and 1 in the fourth, Avery gave some nice minutes while Jefferson was being tended to.

 

Henderson reminds me of "The Helicopter" from UC a few years back. What was his name? Arrez has hops.

 

Edmondson only had 2 baskets - one on a long pass which resulted in a layup and he had an early 3. He plays hard but (I sound like a broken record) he has to learn to score while moving.

 

Both Averys played well in relief.

 

Henderson's hops are unreal. CCH forgot to block him out and lose the 'jumping' battle which resulted in a few easy baskets for the kid.

I give a Big hand to Danny Noll. The kid doesnt start, when he gets time its only because he works his butt off, and he saves the colonels in the 2nd half. Yea TJ kept them alive in the first but wow wut a game for danny,... wish it could have ended differantly but i thought that danny played extremely well. If im not mistaken thats his first career double double, so danny keep it up,... you have showed everyone what you got, not you gotta live up to that. I honestly dont see how after tonight he wont have a starting position. With Schult not playin as well lately as he used to, and young getting into some foul trouble, Noll has been playing tremendous. Still waitin on that triple out ya danny.

I would expect to see Cahill's PT increase.

After watching the game tonight I would say that the ninth region could go to any of the top 6 or 7 teams. Holmes, Covcath, and Highlands should be at the top, but they are NOT head and shoulders above the Holy Cross, Dixie, NCC, and Beechwood's as was thought earlier in the year.

I agree. Even so, I thought TJ's anticipation in that play tonight should have been rewarded with at least a no call.

 

We've seen a lot more blocking and "no calls" this year when you would expect to see a charge. I sometimes think it's because too many kids are flopping early instead of letting the contact knock them down. (not to suggest that TJ flopped in this case by any means... tonight's play was due to both kids moving in the same direction to the same spot simultaneously)

HC, NCC, Dixie, and Beechwood are not in the same class as Holmes, CovCath, or Highlands.

 

 

HC & Beechwood are not getting out of the 35th district, period.

 

Dixie & NCC are in weak districts and they both will be done early in the regional.
