I understand something like baseball getting dropped because it doesn't have much popularity all over the world. But wrestling is quite popular especially overseas. I really can't explain it. And this is in an Olympics where golf (GOLF!?) is making its debut.

February 13, 201313 yr I was never a wrestler but I've done Jiu jitsu...and it made me wish I was a wrestler in high school! It's a shame they have removed it from the Olympics.
February 13, 201313 yr I agree with you mcpapa. Would you remove soccer as well? It's a very important event for the women, who don't have a whole lot of major competitions throughout the year. I hate to take it away for that reason at least. For the men, it is a useless exercise as they basically use it as an unofficial U-23 World Cup.
February 13, 201313 yr completely moronic decision. Eliminated by a backroom, secret ballot, by a team led by major supporters of Pentathalon. Wrestling is big in many countries, and has had over 300 participants in the last several Olympics. It's also provided some great moments....Rulon Gardner's win, Dan Gable not giving up a point, and heck even gave us Kurt Angle. Most everybody can identify and recognize wrestling (though they may not understand it). I'd be willing to be most folks couldn't identify the 5 events in modern Pentathalon.

February 13, 201313 yr Is the pentathelon the event where you cross country ski with a rifle on your back? What you mention is Biathalon which is a winter event. Pentathalon is pistol shooting, fencing, 200 m freestyle swimming, show jumping, and a 3 km cross-country run.
