I keep hearing alot about the new Smith and Wesson M&P Shield. Has anyone fired one?

I bought a S&W 9mm approx 10 years ago for home protection, not my favorite though. I've always wanted a Dirty Hairy type pistol. Preferably, a 44mag revolver with a 6" barrell or longer. The kind of pistol I would have to carry in my wheel barrow... Pistol experts: What should I expect to pay for such a gun?

 

Got it! I'm now the very happy owner of a S&W model 29 44mag revolver with 8 3/8" barrel. Shot 10 shots yesterday and loved it. With some more practice, it will become a part of my deer hunting equipment for those 20 yard and in shots... Now looking for the best way to pack this thing.

How does the model 29 compare to the 629? Different frames? Is one more significantly more expensive than the other?

 

I think along with the 686, S&W has another very good .357, is it the model 27?

Friend, I honestly don't know the difference in models. I just wanted a hand cannon. A local gun trader had this one and when I saw it, love at first sight! I traded my S&W 9mm and gave some boot, probably a little too much. Even so, I'm happy with my handgun now.

Gotcha. Trying to keep track of the differences in Smith and Wesson revolvers is tough. I was at Open Range (it is a combo gun range and gun store in Oldham County) today and the guy behind the counter admitted he had trouble keeping them straight too. To his defence, he mostly keeps track of scheduling the range, scheduling the paint ball area, selling ammo and ringing up orders not so much a floor sales guy you would expect would have high knowledge of fire arms.

 

The first revolver I ever fired was Run to State's Smith and Wesson Model 686 .357 with a 6 inch barrel. I loved shooting it. If I ever get one, it will probably be a 4 inch barrel. Several people I know carry that during the winter and having that ability would be nice. When Trinity and Highlands scrimmage next time I may have to sweet talk Run to State to bringing it down and us going to the range.

On a side note, while I love the quality of Sig Sauer's, I cannot keep them straight either. There are soooooo many different variations that I wouldn't know where to begin if I were going to buy one. I know the P226 and the P229 seem to be favorites but I really couldn't tell you what differentiates them or the different aspects of them. When looking at their website, I noticed they have classes at their New Hampshire office and you can become a Sig Certified Armorer. It seems like Glock Armorers are all over the place but I don't think I have heard of a Sig Armorer in Louisville yet. If one were to get that certification and were able to advertise at gun ranges/gun stores or set up some type of revenue sharing program with them, that may be able to turn into a lucrative gig.

Okay men, I have now fired the Sig. Love it. The grip isn't as comfortable as the Kimber. I am not as accurate with the Sig. But the Sig is considerably heavier, which I thought I wouldn't like, and target acquisition was way easier with the Sig when firing in succession. Smooth operator too. While I would take the Kimber over the Sig if I had to choose, I have to say that the Sig is a very very nice weapon. Very happy with the gun. My youngest is just a natural with a pistol. I say it's young eyes, but it's more than that. Just one of those people who doesn't have to "work" to visualize and acquire the target. He put em in a 2inch group at 20 yards. I wasn't nearly that accurate.:irked:

Yep. Shot many rounds thru both. One shot? Kimber all the way. Multiple shots with accuracy? I'll take the sig.

I can get a deal on any Springfield Armory gun I choose. Right around 40% off retail. Not sure what I'll get. I'm sitting on a lot of guns already but just can't pass this up.
