Beechwood was utterly AWFUL tonight :puke:, they should just just stick with football!

Holy Cross scores the 1st 19pts. of the game, they looked like a well oiled machine.

Is Chase Maus out of the line up for Beechwood? hurt...sick?

He has not been in the box scores the last 2 games.

VOR, you are correct, the kids are playing hard and have not given up. I dont know the coaching staff, but BW's offense is inept at best, very little movement or cutting through the lane, they seem to stand around the perimeter and hope someone makes a 3 pointer, and that is difficult considering they are not a good shooting team. Doesnt seem to be a good situation at the moment.

I think Michael Miller does a good job with what he has to do it with, is a good coach, and certainly has the best interests of Beechwood basketball at heart. Took a bold step last year to try to improve his program by moving out of Division III and up to Division II.

 

I suspect that like Highlands, he has some football obstacles to overcome. To schools like Beechwood, Brossart Holy Cross NCC and Holmes are simply on a different planet than them right now. By playing the tougher schedlue and absorbing a number of losses enroute, the perception becuase of the less-stellar win-loss record is that their program is down. What would their record look like if they were playing two each against Dayton, Bellevue, Latin, Heritage, Calvary, and Ludlow???

Good point Mustang, they would have a better record without a doubt, but I do question playing teams like Montgomery County, that was nothing more than a blood bath. I am in favor of playing better opponents, but you do have to sprinkle in some teams you know that you have a chance to compete with, if for nothing more than player morale. Just my thoughts.

I look at performance on the court and results. Beechwood had good results and performances with 3 different coaches over the past 10+ years. The results last year and so far this year are very disappointing. If Shumate were still coaching and playing the same schedule, Beechwood would not lose by 30 points to every good team they play. They would win more than 10 games in a season against the schedule they are currently playing.

 

There are no obstacles at Beechwood and that statement is very far off base. Every coach at Beechwood knows it is a small school and kids need to be "shared". Coach Rash and everyone else in athletics encourage kids to play other sports and get involved in other activities.

 

Beechwood has enough talent to be competitive.

VOR you are exactly correct on every one of your points. I am certain if things don't change, basketball will lose the talent at the JV and freshman levels. These kids will chose to lift for football and workout for baseball. The same thing happen years ago when Miller was the JV coach,he just runs off the players.

I remember people talking about the size and talent of an upcoming class at BW. Is that the current frosh class? Did they retain those players?
